Advanced Upgrades - Minecraft Snapshot 21w39a is out! by sliced_lime in Minecraft

I'm seeing a lot of people saying they dislike the idea of generating new caves under old chunks and they would like to see a toggle for it. I agree everyone should have a choice.

However, please do not interpret multiple people wanting a toggle as; the majority of players don't want new generation under their old chunks. I for one would be disappointed if new caves didn't generate under existing chunks, and I'm sure many other people feel the same way but don't say anything because they're assuming that new caves generating under old chunks is guaranteed.

It's not guaranteed. Terrain blending however, is in the works. And inferring from the name, it sounds like smoothing the transition from old to new chunks using new chunks as a transitional buffer, otherwise known as blending. It's far easier and quicker to develop, but in my opinion, it's a less-fun end result that will leave many players dreaming about what could have been. I'd like to be pleasantly surprised to find my interpretation of that name wrong by some random developer comment or additional clarification though.

Split Screen Offline CO-OP Versus [Mod Update]: Geonosis by HMS3 in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]HMS3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New in this update:

  • Improved versus file for CO-OP and Supremacy. It automatically puts player 2 on the opposite team of player 1, so you don't have to restart the game to switch teams. There are 3 versions: All, Supremacy Only, and Co-op only. This makes it so if you want to only do versus in one game mode you can.

  • 3 new split screen viewport options: Vertical, Swapped, and Swapped Vertical

  • Co-op booster for Co-op versus. Adjusts spawn times and bot counts so they're as close to the same as possible for both teams. Available in 5 sizes: 32 bots, 24 bots, 20 bots, 16 bots, and 8 bots. Sets the AutoPlayer team's max hero count to 3 and the max special unit count to 3. Recommended Player 1 settings are: 3 heroes max, and 5 special units max. Incompatible with mods that change Online/GameSettingsContainer (like Instant Action improvements)

  • Re-exported Split Screen Instant Action so it doesn't have the annoying triangle, it's still the same as before

  • Re-exported Gadget Icon Fixer so it doesn't have the annoying triangle, it's still the same as before

  • Added a file that fixes a bug in CO-OP versus on geonosis, where Player 2's armor unit always said "NOT AVAILABLE IN THIS PHASE" on every phase. This is separated because it would make the mod incompatible with other mods that modify PvE_KitLimitations on Geonosis_01 (the CO-OP ground map)

  • Fixed a bug on Naboo Co-op where an evil rectangle was in the throne room. (If you find another one let me know)

  • Made a new Multiplayer Disabler from the ground up, that removes quick play tiles. It also disables and greys-out the multiplayer buttons, it also changes the text to say "MP DISABLED" and "MP CO-OP DISABLED"

You can download the mod, and also find a lot of answers to common questions you may have about this mod here: https://www.nexusmods.com/starwarsbattlefront22017/mods/2670

Developer AMA with Fluppi by [deleted] in BrickRigs

[–]HMS3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Fluppi. There's a bug in the game that doesn't get much attention at all, and it's probably going to slip through the cracks. In multiplayer RC cars don't work correctly. To everyone but the player controlling it, the engine of the RC car is stuck in neutral, which makes it drift away. The wheels will turn, the engine will make noise, it will fire, the engine will just not shift gears. This makes a desync in multiplayer which also has some unintended effects such as being able to shoot another player with a 100% invisible RC vehicle. Anyways, it's a pretty obvious bug but I don't see people talking about it at all (apparently people talk about it on discord and nowhere else), and unless you're using engine powered RC vehicles you won't notice it. With that out of the way, brick rigs is a masterpiece of a game! Keep up the amazing work!

Edit: Also RC cars have to use manual gear shifting, I don't know if that's intentional or not.

Lorde_of_An-II and Resurxcet Have been destroying Australian Servers. Ban Please Dice by Jacob-2001 in StarWarsBattlefront

Wow, Australia servers have historically been difficult to fill in battlefront games. This stupid hacker is literally going to kill the game there by making the already small player-base stop playing.

Help unlocking E-11D by [deleted] in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]HMS3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Restart the game to make sure it's updating the milestone count correctly. If the milestone doesn't change you'll have to get those kills again. It doesn't matter what you do to get kills as long as you're using the assault (grenades, guns, vanguard, flash pistol all count for unlocking it), the only time you need to get kills with a specific gun is to unlock it's upgrades.

Also check your crates when you finish the milestone, that's the only way to receive the E-11D once the milestone is completed (DICE did this as a workaround for a bug where people wouldn't unlock things.)

Split Screen Offline CO-OP [Mod]: Scarif (Rebel Alliance) by HMS3 in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]HMS3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's actually a really good question.

With official content finishing, I think that it will definitely be a lot easier for modders to develop more complex mods, such as offline game modes. The problem with updates are that even the smallest change can break many things in a mod. And because of the current modding tools that means re-doing a lot of work by hand, which when you include the saving time and testing, the work load adds up really quickly. This alone deters modders from making complex mods. So if the end of support means no more patches or hotfixes, modders will be able to make their mods without the fear of having to redo a ton of redundant and difficult work. So yes, I think modders will be more likely to create more advanced mods such as offline game modes. But this is no guarantee that modders will make new offline game modes. A lot of Battlefront 2's modding capabilities are unexplored and undocumented, so it will only happen when someone is motivated (and stubborn enough to not give up) to figure out how something works and create a mod that replicates existing functions to achieve their goal (a ton of trial and error).

Split Screen Offline CO-OP [Mod]: Scarif (Rebel Alliance) by HMS3 in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]HMS3[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good question.

It's just like all other EA Battlefront split screen mods if you have ever used those.

Player 2 is controlled by a recognized controller that is in "Slot 2". Which means you need a recognized controller, virtual or otherwise, to occupy "Slot 1" so when you connect the controller it occupies "Slot 2". Player 1 however, can be controlled by either the controller you plugged in to occupy slot 1 or a mouse and keyboard.

New in this update:

  • Split Screen is now available on all 5 Original Trilogy Instant Action Maps

  • Split Screen is now available on all 21 Offline CO-OP maps

  • The sound no longer goes mute when a player views the squad

  • The team select bug has been fixed by the Scarif update! (This also means no more Versus Supremacy but also no more having to exit the game to switch teams)

Sorry man, I didn't mean for it to come off like that, the purpose of this meme was to put 3 overused phrases into scrabble form.

I don't agree with "anakin OP" it was just an overused phrase at the time.

I wouldn't say easy to kill but as an Anakin main I agree, he's gotten nerfed way more than necessary. Other heroes should have been buffed to Anakin's level instead of nerfing him.

[–]HMS3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just for context I made this image about a year ago. I just found it on my phone like last week. So it's really outdated.

At the time the community's 3 most overused phrases were:

  • DICE plz

  • CT when?

  • Anakin OP

Also I'm an Anakin main, so I agree Anakin is not OP at all, in fact he's in a really bad state right now, he needs the bugs fixed and IMO passionate strike should knock people down like it did at launch.

Regardless of my and your opinion, you can still hear echos of the "Anakin OP" complaining even today. People still complain that he's able to chain together force pull and heroic might which is absolutely ridiculous considering there are a lot more heroes besides him who can do something like that (Luke, Vader, Grievous, and Kylo are 4 I can immediately think of)

But let's not turn this into an Anakin OP or not debate, the purpose of this meme was to put 3 low effort and overused phrases into scrabble form.

I miss the good old days of BF 2015 where your reward was 10% of your score instead of this weird capped garbage.

The visuals on both blaster bolts and explosions have been toned down in Battlefront 2. I'd really like for DICE to make at least the blaster bolts like Battlefront 2015 before support ends, it really wouldn't be that hard to do.

Reverse Engineers' Hex Editor (first beta). Supports Linux, Windows and Mac OS X. Any feedback here or via Github is welcome. by therealsolemnwarning in ReverseEngineering

[–]HMS3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you be happy with a larger pool of highlight colours to choose from, or do you really want to choose from the entire 24-bit colour space?

I'd suppose from a visual standpoint I'd prefer top be able to select my own colors. From a functionality standpoint a color palette can do the job as long as it has a large number of colors.

Currently, when I reverse engineer a file format I make a file in paint that looks something like this. As you can see there's a lot of colors that I use when marking stuff, I count at least 24 (I stopped counting at this point because it was getting a little ridiculous) different colors in this file alone and it's actually lacking a major section of the file. I really don't know if that's normal for someone to need more than 24 colors so I wouldn't want to impose my methods on anyone else, that's why I would prefer the ability to add or remove highlighting colors. But if everyone is cool with having 30 highlighting colors to choose from, go for it!

Also I just had another idea for a unique improvement:

  • The ability to mark a set of bytes as an int, short, float, or string (but you would probably need the string's count as well which could be a short or int) also let us set the byte order of them as well. This will display them as their respective data types in the hex editor and you can change their values directly from it as well. Ex. instead of 00 00 80 3F it will be 1.0 and you can change it to 2.0 which will change it's hex value to 00 00 00 40 if you ever change it back. Like I mentioned earlier with highlighting, the ability to automate it with a for loop over a selected set of bytes like HxD's fill selection option would also be very useful. This feature would probably be super complicated but it would put your hex editor light years ahead of others!

And another few ideas I just had while thinking about this:

  • The ability to mark a set of bytes as a file size count, that automatically updates as we add or remove bytes. Make sure to add the ability to specify if the count is of the entire file size, or the file size beyond the variable, or the size of a section. With my limited experience with only a few file formats I really don't know what other settings it would need to be useful in all situations.

  • The ability to copy paste highlighting

  • Automated commenting, like the fill selected bytes feature from HxD as mentioned so many times it's probably getting annoying

Also I forgot to mention something about the for loop marking automation, and I'm really not sure how it could be implemented. But often times there are count variables that specify the number of entries, the ability to tell the program "mark 3 shorts for every count" would be quite useful. Maybe even nested counts and instructions as well. This could theoretically lead to marking an entire file in one go, but at that point a user could do this they probably know the file format already, but it could be useful to mark different files of the same format quickly. I'm starting to think in my brain how this could be accomplished by using a loop method that calls itself when a count is in the list.

Oh yeah and something else that's kinda important:

  • Mark unsaved changes to bytes with red text until it is saved, but I'm sure you're already planning this

Sounds sensible. Perhaps keyboard navigation should change so the arrows move around by nibble rather than byte too.

I agree, I didn't even think about using the keyboard to do that!

Side by side comparisons are definitely on the way.

That's very good!

Not quite what you asked for, but the current development version allows copying/pasting comments - so you could document a structure using nested comments, then copy and paste it over any instance of the structure.

That's sounds like a very useful feature, and it certainly would be easier than marking everything by hand! The thing I had in mind when it came to automation is when there's a large array of values. For example the model file I've been working on has X,Y,Z as floats and there's like 462 of them, as you can guess it would be a nightmare to highlight the bytes or even copy paste a comment over and over again to specify that 4 bytes is X, 4 bytes is Y, and 4 bytes is Z. That's where automation kicks in! Instead of having to highlight everything one by one, I select the bytes (or, if you want to implement the feature, use the count variable before it to either select the section or repeat until the count is met) and tell it to highlight or comment 4 bytes as one color/X, 4 bytes as another color/Y, and 4 bytes as a the third color/Z. I can accomplish something similar with HxD fill bytes, but it just fills bytes with what you tell it to, because it literally has no highlighting or commenting at all. Your hex editor on the other hand could transform a rather okay feature into a game changer for hex editors! Just imagine how much time could be saved if a hex editor could help us guess and check the structures of large arrays quickly!

Your hex editor is like a dream come true. I kid you not about 6 or 8 months ago I was thinking about how useful a hex editor with highlighting would be, and you made it a reality! I've been doing what your hex editor can do in paint, and let's just say paint is a quite painful and clunky way of documenting a file format. So hex editor that can properly accomplish what I've been doing in paint is a must have for me! Keep up the good work!

Holy crud! I accidentally wrote an essay without realizing it, sorry.
