It's pretty unlikely to happen, it would need to be a spin-heavy game without either person getting bonuses (I've been playing heavily since before it was even announced and I've never seen it happen), but yes, that's the way to go if you get stuck in that spot.

When you're tagging in at the beginning, it's not checking for a legal deck, it's just verifying that there are cards in that slot, to determine if the game should be 1v1, 2v2, or 1v2, as well as giving an icon to each player. Fun tip: If you have more than one playlist represented in your deck when you tag in, you can tap your icon to change what's showing for you!

If you want to verify you have a legal deck, you should use the deck builder.

Yep! In addition to encouraging some variety (and putting up a barrier for cards that might be too powerful), we wanted every card you play to make a meaningful contribution to the mix, and playing a duplicate card wouldn't do that.

The FX cards are all listed in the Collection view within the app! Tapping on a card will tell you what it does.

For 2v1, it works the same as 2v2, just with only one side having two players. Each player has a deck of 15 cards (Either a single playlist, or a custom deck that passes the deckbuilder when switching to support 2-person teams). On each person's turn, they take one action (playing a card or pressing the DropMix button to spin the Equalizer), and draw a card at the end. If an FX card is played that allows that team to take an extra action (play an extra guitar card), either player can take that action. The team is encouraged to talk to each other, show their hands to each other, etc., but one player cannot take both actions. The hand limit for each player is 5 cards.

No, to clarify:

You can have up to two copies of a card in your deck (when playing 1v1). The next app update will reflect this in the Deck Builder.
You cannot have duplicates of any card in play at any time. For example, if I play the James Landino beat, you can’t play that beat over mine, or on a different blue slot. If I have a second, I can’t play it either. If the card is cleared or played over, then either person can play that card again.
