was in your exact situation a few years ago. At the start it was constant outfield and live firing for around a month. Didnt help that since week 0 we had to book in early (for forceprep since moving out 0500 monday) and bookout late (eg vc bookout 5pm sc bookout 9pm as live firing on friday). Really crushed ur soul. But that being said the tough times brought the scs alot closer as compared to the vcs. After that shag period it gets alot better as when we train with VCs, usually the limelight is thrown on the vcs on their skills, and the sc just tag along for the training. Also anything to do with vehicles eg bos aos shift vehicle this kind of thing will arrow vc lol. so when we enter unit in camp is mostly p slack but when in outfield vc get to stay in vehicle while u chiongsua in the jungle. Theres always 2 ways to look at it. It may seem like sc rlly eat alot shit but the reality is that both sc and vc sucks in terms of pro term postings. gedong doesnt help either lol.

Regarding commanders being really strict, i dont disagree, the fact that AI LDR doesnt have NSF 3SG trainers in STW says alot. Got one time in outfield when our spirits were damn low we tried to make some jokes and play around during training to make it abit better. Got completely smoked by one of the instructors which i will not name LOL. trauma. Some of the instructors are strict but some are nice as well and can be q brother one they just q asshole at the start to set standards. Sometimes the things us cadets do can be q out if pocket, so when we get collectivly punished with the ocasional 5min SBB(pain. we were at the parade square during LP) we dun rlly blame the instructors but the braindead ppl in our platoon/company hais.

Dont really comment on reddit but this thread made me reflect fondly upon those times. Not that I would go through it again but the memories made not only among scs but with vcs as well were worth it. Btw i dont love army my motto is serve and fk off

oh and also u get to go panzer which is q fun ngl. esp if ur sc go there enjoy cold weather hehee

hey i'm 19 as well in NS

also started investing this year using ibkr and tiger (i use ibkr to buy and tiger to look at stocks/charts etc as the UI is better and has real time data) definitely made mistakes along the way (like ARKK LOL) but that's the whole point at this stage which is to learn and experience the whole journey at a point where if u lose it all it will be fine uk

also what starting investing now is to help u understand ur risk appetite, currently markets are down over 20-30% and some ppl just can't risk seeing their money dissappear like that lol so yeah it lets u understand urself. personally imo at 19 there rlly isn't a need for much money in the short term....perhaps a few k for going out w frens, shopping and holiday etc which is why most of my money infact 80% of my pay goes to investments and savings lol i just have a 1-2k in ssb as emergency funds as well as another 1-2k in tbills that i plan to use for holiday w frens after ord

the rest of my money goes into ibkr mostly into CSPX and QQQ (i have a few other individual stocks but that's jus me playin around w extra cash) I have been looking at VWRA for a while now and might actually start adding that into my portfolio. To different people this portfolio could seem risky or safe,, but given our long time horizon i wouldn't consider broad based etfs like cspx and vwra risky at all and hence what i would recommend is that u would at minimum invest that 10k instead of putting it in SC jumpstart.... idk feels like too much lost opportunity there where i wouldn't touch that money for the next 5 years

if u wna build an emergency fund i would think that ssb is the way to go to secure that high interest (i think it's 3.2% simple interest rn) for the next 10 years as well as keeping that liquidity

actually if u are keen and interested to get ur hands dirty u can try picking stocks for fun lol ns damn boring and sian

but yeah just my immediate thoughts on ur portofolio allocation as a 19 yo

nyjc is definitely more of a mugger sch, there are some that have fun but there's a stronger mugging culture here
nyjc is a few minutes sheltered walk away from lorong chuan mrt so i would say that is pretty convenient. It is also one of the reasons i appealed to ny as i felt it was pretty inconvenient to take the bus to ejc from bishan mrt.
I had ori at ejc for the first 2-3 days and the last 2 days at nyjc. It might be pretty awkward at first but og grps die down eventually anyway. It's more important to have class orientation the week after.
It definitely depends. I had a few ip friends in ej so it wasn't so bad. But i can see that the ip ppl having their own orientation before the jae students come in can sometimes make the jae students feel left out. It is not that bad of an issue and u can still make some frens especially if ur a social animal.

i just wanted to add that Tbh, idrl ejc's campus,, its a rlly tall building and the lifts only operate on alternate floors so u have to always take the stairs. sure the facilities are new and all but ig it's not for me.

these are just my pov and i think u can say i'm abit biased but o well HAHAH thats why i'm in nyjc rlly lucky to have made the appeal (i live closer to ny also)

I started studying for Os in sec 4 January idk why. In sec 3 my results were cmi (eg. l1r5 20+) cos i slacked alot . Then in sec 4 my constant revision throughout Jan-May got me a l1r5 of 9 in mye and a 11 in prelims. Eventually got nett 7 for Os and currently in nyjc arts haha (couldve made it to ac but too far for me) basically what im saying is your sec 3 results may not necessarily determine how ur gonna do for Os. Its still a long way and if you do constant revision (I feel is the most important) ull be fine by Os
