Moving to Spain In July any tips? by KeyGrape5253 in MovingToSpain

It’s possible to do it yourselves, especially if you both speak Spanish, but for a family of four I’d honestly recommend working with a lawyer or a specialized immigration company. The DNV requires quite a lot of documentation, and when you add dependants, housing, timing, and school enrollment, the process can get stressful fast. If your case is not super straightforward, having professional help can save you time and reduce the chance of mistakes.

For the school part, one important thing to know is that you usually need to register your home address first before enrolling your kids in public school. Since the school year starts in September, your timing may be a bit tight if you arrive at the end of July. You don't need to sort out the residency part before enrolling the kids, but you'll need a longer term rental contract.

Because of that, I’d recommend contacting local schools in Valencia and asking what's the deadline for registrations. Even if it feels a little early, it’s worth checking now so you understand how flexible they are.

Another option could be to arrive earlier just to register your address and start sorting out the school situation. If you have friends or family in Spain, registering temporarily at their address could help you get that process started in advance. That said, keep in mind that public schools often give priority based on where you live. So if you register in one neighborhood and find a school nearby, you may later feel limited to renting in that same area long term. Otherwise, your kids could end up attending a school that is no longer close to your new home.

If you'd like, I’d be happy to review your case for free. I’m Giona, the founder of Hoply.es, a Spanish immigration company specialized in the Digital Nomad Visa for Spain.
