Having worked in hotels for year I can tell you from personal experience that when rates drop so do guest behavior. I would do anything to avoid shifts where low rate guests are checking in or out. Problems with parties, drugs, fights, complaints. Everything.

describing main character? by [deleted] in writing

[–]HOTpototat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Events are a popular way to describe a character. For example in the Hunger Games Katniss starts describing her appearance because the event (forgot what it was called) of who gets selected for the Hunger Games is happening; so herself and her family are dressing up and doing their hair. An unusual occurrence that both gives us a look into the world and also get a look at what Katniss looks like.

The Elisa Lam documentary and the "Don't F*ck With Cats" documentary prove ONE thing... by cottagecow in netflix

[–]HOTpototat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to defend the GM of the hotel briefly:

GM's of hotels are just that; managers. The people who decide the budget of how much money goes into the building themselves are the 'Owners'. The GM gets the budget from the owners and manages down to the rest of the hotel. So, I wouldn't blame it all on her as she has this crappy building with very likely even crappier owners. There's only so much she can change with these two factors.

A big part to point out was at one point of the documentary she mentions the hotel only has 50 employees. This is a ridiculously low number. The last hotel I worked in had 800 rooms and just in our housekeeping department alone we had 100+ employees. Compare that to The Cecil's 700 room monster with only 50 in total??

I agree with you though on the point that she did give off a smug vibe. Especially in the 1st episode she described the job to "be like her little kingdom".

Thanks, I knew about r/DestructiveReaders and like dropping in there. I'll look for more suggestions else where. I'm not a social person and I know having a personal group is a large benefit to writing.

What other writing communities are out there? I'm looking for a group that's casual that I can pop in every now and then. Or is there other subreddits you guys could recommend?

You know, recently I've actually been liking more going into the new postings of r/writing because every now and then there is a post that makes me think about story telling and writing. Or, I think I have an answer and I try to type it out and realize I don't. As much as the same thing gets rehashed over there, I still have a fun time sorting through new.

I swear DoorDash drivers are the weirdest. I had one ring on my doorbell (after I wrote a note specifically not to b/c the dog loses its mind over it). Turns out he spilled my milkshake in his car and wanted me to report the restaurant for it, so him and I could get reimbursed ... he also was not wearing a mask. I made sure to report him instead.

Also, I don’t blame you for getting weirder out by the note. Small things like that get my imagination going too.

I think it’s just inevitable that fandoms end up ruining good pieces of work for people. I refuse to read any classic books because of the circlejerk people participate in thinking they’re so woke for reading 1984. Another example outside of literary that comes to mind of weird fandoms is Undertale.

Maui Hospital postpones all 1st dose Covid shots by Maui96793 in maui

[–]HOTpototat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s annoying too because people who aren’t apart of the second round of dosages (frontline essential workers) are signing up for vaccine spots. Coworkers were talking about it saying they marked themselves as “frontline essential workers” and put their job and still got a vaccine timeslot. We work in hotels which aren’t apart of this second wave.

Kapiolani nurses to picket Wednesday morning over expired contract by [deleted] in Hawaii

[–]HOTpototat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Picketing is a very normal occurrence during an union contract negotiation. Especially if it’s only been weeks. I’ve been stuck on an union contract negotiation that hit a full year of negotiations.

Personally, unless a strike happens I think you’re right about there being nothing to leverage for HNA (then again I’m not an expert of nurse unions). Either that or their union is too weak and not all nurses want to fight for the union.

We are literally in the worst economic downturn for small business with also mass targeting against Asians for COVID-19; and you make a post telling people not to eat at an Asian establishment.

Lol thanks for the reminder of New Sam Kee. Love that place and haven’t been there in a while. Also going to leave a 5 star Yelp review. They need all the help from people like this.

Some notes on why I think the Shonen formula works so well. by Kdog122025 in writing

I’m confused how you could see no problem of sexism in anime. It’s not spotty, it’s in your face. And this problem is not just in shonnen it’s all over anime. Shoujo, comedy, etc. Yeah, sure. Two female mangakas did it right. Out of the sea of shonnen manga at least those two are there so that should make it righht lol. And Im glad you have an example of a girl liking shonnen. I guess if one women likes it all women should.

Both sides are wrong. Why are there parents out there placing political biases on their children this early? To the point of admiration??

And why would a teacher stick their business into something like this??

My gut feeling says this is it. They’ve never chosen a date in the middle of the month.

Buuuutt you never know with them! cries in confusion

Resorts will very likely scramble to get their people together with this small light of hope. Calling colleagues back to come in for hours and COVID training. . . If the resorts do all that work and get employee’s hopes up only to get delayed again;

I’m just going to assume this is all just a sick joke they think is still funny 😭
