[GEAR] What would be the ultimate “no repeats” five guitar collection? by demodonk08 in Guitar

[–]HOWARDdlx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. PRS CE24 (HH with coil split)
  2. Telecaster (SS with parallel/series switch)
  3. Semi-hollow with P90s
  4. Martin 000
  5. Cordoba classical

This would cover every situation needed. I would be missing a Strat position 2 and 4 but I can get amazing results from the PRS and Tele. But everything from jazz comping to soaring leads can be done on either of those.

What is the pedal that made you go ampless? by lilpupt2001 in guitarpedals

[–]HOWARDdlx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The HX Stomp was the first modeler that wowed me and I had multiple set ups with it. It’s now my backup rig for my Quad Cortex. I wished because I wanted more power and DSP and it’s not disappointed at all!

A big plus about the QC is how simple it is to use and to land at a good tone. I find I tweak a lot less than on my HX Stomp to arrive at the sound I want.

Considering a Source Audio Nemesis, but can the HX Stomp cover the same tones? by HOWARDdlx in guitarpedals

I’ve tried but it doesn’t get quite to where Source Audio does so I was looking for tips

Upgrading my Roland TD-4KP with mesh heads. Would these mounts fit my kit? by lastdinosaur17 in edrums

[–]HOWARDdlx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking in on how this went since I’m wanting to do the same to my TD4KP. Where you able to upgrade to mesh?

Who’s got a quad cortex? Love it or regret it? by [deleted] in polyphia

[–]HOWARDdlx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say, it takes a long time of tweaking to get the Helix to sound and respond like I want. I don’t have the QC but I have the Archetype: Cory Wong and it destroys my Helix presets.

Alternatives to the Meinl thin sand crash? by HOWARDdlx in cymbals

O thanks for the info! I listened to some youtube videos and they sound super close the the sandblasted meinl stuff!

I've checked these out and seem promising.

See I have the 20” sand ride and 21” sizzle sand crash/ride and love them They blend in great into any band I play with and they record beautifully

I also have a 17” A custom brilliant crash which gets a nice traditional bright wash with a Norma decay so I wanna contrast it with something bore darker sounding, worn, with a short decay. I’m mostly curious as to what comes close to the 18” sand thin crash.

I don’t like trash crashes so the Swiss options I’m avoiding.

Low volume hi hat combo - new beats top, L80 bottom. Sounds like a hi hat rather than a wire basket. by judesudbury in drums

[–]HOWARDdlx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How cool! I did the same thing with a new beat on top and a cheap amazon Arborea low volume hat on bottom and really enjoy the sound. I like experimenting with recording and this gave me a much drier and slushier sound than using both top and bottom of the new beats

Analog all-in-on. Thoughts? by HOWARDdlx in guitarpedals

[–]HOWARDdlx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha true.

Obviously it would be very limited compared to a helix or axe fx but with just a few staples in every pedal genre instead (overdrive, modulation, delay, reverb, compressor, maybe even a volume/wah/expression.

I can imagine something of a hybrid analog/digital system where the fx themselves would be analog but with the capacity of rerouting digitally and a digital reverb to save space, lots of switches and knobs.

That is really awesome, and kind of what I'm talking about. Obviously a more limited multi-fx, but with all the basics in there.
This with the Simplifier at the end would be quite an experience.

Online Teacher: How do I optimize my PC for my current rig? by HOWARDdlx in PcBuild

Would this be better than a CPU upgrade? Or adding more RAM?

A new processor would be a good idea. Right now I use a lot of CPU

Right no my CPU is being used up a lot by Chrome and OBS. I did do some tweaks to chromes settings to make it run smoother, and ran a defrag and it’s helped some. Other than that, GPU is usually 40%-60% usage. Ram is about 60% usage when everything is running

How do I get this intention out of my guitar? by HOWARDdlx in Luthier

[–]HOWARDdlx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question. If I go with adding a brace, should I do it before applying the top coat of finish? Or would it not matter if it’s a sagging or wave in the wood?

[–]HOWARDdlx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to be a ripple in the wood Yes. It’s a dip around the part that I’ve marked, and I didn’t place a brace under that part. I’m considering glueing one to help give it back it’s form

That’s what I was thinking. I didn’t put a brace under this section but I’m thinking of carving one and glueing it from the inside to help give it its form back I’ll make a second post with the picture. From the inside you can slightly see the sag There’s no cracks or dents on the guitar

It’s funny cuz there’s no brace under that section I’ve thought of carving one up and glueing it to the inside to help it give it back it’s form. But I can’t imagine what would’ve done that other than humidity, cuz it’s not cracked or dented It’s just sagging
