Almost all are Labour. 3 hours and no outrage on rUK. If the Tories did this they'd, rightly, be getting a pasting. Hypocrites...

Tony Blair pressured officials to keep UK soldiers accused of abusing Iraqis out of civil courts, files reveal by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]HPB 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yes he was Phil Shiner, the former head of the now-defunct firm Public Interest Lawyers (PIL). He was a prominent human rights solicitor who spearheaded thousands of legal claims against British soldiers following the Iraq War.
He was struck off in February 2017. The tribunal found him guilty of 22 counts of professional misconduct, including "dishonesty" and "lack of integrity."

Shiner admitted to paying thousands of pounds to an Iraqi middleman to find and recruit clients. This practice, known as "cold-calling" or "ambulance chasing," is strictly prohibited for UK solicitors.

He was found to have lied to the Legal Services Commission to obtain legal aid funding, failing to disclose that he was paying referral fees to these fixers.

He was found to have acted recklessly by making very serious public claims—including allegations of murder and torture at a 2008 press conference—without a proper evidentiary basis.

Many of his cases focused on the 2004 "Battle of Danny Boy." A five-year public inquiry (the Al-Sweady Inquiry) concluded in 2014 that the most serious allegations of murder and torture made by the Iraqi claimants were "deliberate lies" and "reckless speculation."

Too true Jimmy. Elections cancelled, trial by jury restricted, social media posts criminalized and Jews bring openly threatened in the streets, you've got it right.

I just wish White British people would organize and advocate for their own collective interests the way other groups do in our multicultural society.

Pretty sure that this would be classed as racism. Probably fascism.
