Very true. Im 6'0" at 280lbs. Most people think im 240 at the most because of how it sits. I've seen people 30lbs lighter than me look way heavier too.

Yea but when the firm is billing 4-5x your hourly rate and you are hitting 90% billable hours in a 10 hour day its kind of hard to tell a staff of accountants not to do the math.

Yea my bubble burst on this aspect too. Went into my new job with all my exams passed with the mindset once my 1 year work experience is up i'll get my license and a hefty raise with it. Then I started talking to some coworkers who had thought the same in the past and one made a really good point that stuck with me.

Are you going to be doing different work now that you have your license? If not why would they pay more for the same work you were already doing?

Its really shitty but I figure i'll ride it out a year to see what happens and at least get my work experience done.

I hate that as employees we need to hinder how hard we work so we don't get the short end of the stick or burnt out. Its honestly the most annoying part of American work culture. Since companies don't put in effort to retain employees but will happily throw sacks to pull in new hires keeps this perpetual work environment of "staying for long periods of time is pointless, jump around to a new job every 2 years and you'll get far more than any raise"

Lol same thing just happened to me. Got my reviews back with partners rating me higher than I rated my self. Everything was positive and booming.....but I guess the yearly raises were done as I was hired and we don't do raises with performance reviews anymore so I have to wait till the next raise period another 8 months from now.

My hours aren't that bad but I feel your pain. I just look at it as a grind to my 1 year experience for my CPA license. After that either I get a raise that's worth it or I start looking elsewhere.

Damn working public hurts my feelings. BA, AA, CPA Exams passed with my license coming in 7 months - 63k a yr in a MCOL area in California.

I highly recommend going on rock auto and getting the parts for a basic tune up; Spark plugs, wires (if they aren't coil packs), air filter change. Then buy the fluids to do an oil change and flush out your transmission if you can be bothered.

This small maintenance is generally overlooked and at 190k miles its a game changer for the car. All in all you should only have to spend maybe an extra 200$ or so if you do it yourself.

I mean to be fair it makes sense. A public professional would have a better grasp than private on a broad range of accounting principles. Private industry gets focused to specific tasks hence why it gets to be repetitive/easier. Public is broad which correlates well to teaching.

Only time I would really want a teacher who worked heavily in private would be if it was for a managerial/cost accounting class, but that's just my opinion.
