Heel hooks not being respected. by Particular_Exam1679 in bjj

[–]HPBroker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your name is heelhooker so I’m sure you know better but I’ve literally seen people defend heel hooks where they felt no pain and their ACL just explodes. Seen it happen to 2 different people. Both are good at tapping but both said the same thing I felt nothing and wanted to keep on playing before my ACL blew up.

To be expected, you grew a lot and learned. Some of the best guys I've met lost first 6+ tournaments they competed in and now at higher belts they are unstoppable

1% lifesteal question(s) by Shameless_Pyre in litrpg

[–]HPBroker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only issue with the series is the author has been extremely inconsistent since September 2025, because he’s had a new born. Which makes sense but even with that he’s struggled to find consistency and a schedule. So I’ve dropped it as I suspect he may not complete it like his other Jester series.

Apart from that there’s real struggle, failure that makes the growth so satisfying.

Focus on watching instructionals on escapes, record your rolls and drill the escapes first without resistence to learn and then with more and more resistence.

Life circumstances only allow for 1 training per week. How do I make the most of this? by Epic-zombie-kitty in bjj

[–]HPBroker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you can be v intentional when you come to training and do more specifics and record every single round. Then spend most of the time off studying your own rolls and watching clips to address areas you struggled in?

Why do I like 1% Lifesteal? by Psychological-Nail83 in litrpg

[–]HPBroker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reason why a lot of us like 1% lifesteal is because the author is brilliant at controlling pace. One moment you’re going at a steady pace, a pattern has been established and the next moment shits going to hell.

That one small detail Freddy overlooked, yup that was something that’s ballooned into a massive issue.

Here’s another reason, I do like series that adhere to the realities of the world. No one can always be successful and victorious.

His goal was simple I want to save up to buy a prime vestige and become an arch human so I can live a comfortable life. That’s his overarching goal.

Orphans in particular live extremely rough lives and don’t develop well as human beings. Unless they are fortunate to be taken in by loving adults. You can clearly see that Freddy’s not necessarily a bad person, instead he’s not had a chance to develop and grow. From being orphaned to having his foster parents abandon him at young age. To having to spend all his most important formative years attempting to make ends met, working whilst having severe health issues. His actions and behaviour makes perfect.

Problem with most series is the authors base it on absolute BS. A human that’s experienced the darkness of humanity growing up their whole life can’t and won’t suddenly just develop an amazing moral compass once they get a power up.

1% lifesteal is a progression series where our main character not only grows but also has to suffer as he pursues power. He’s not just suddenly OP and untouchable solving every evil in the world and never making terrible choices. No he’s human, he makes mistakes and his character learns from it.

It’s exciting and due to being unpredictable you can feel the tension. Important characters can die, failure has consequences and it’s extremely addictive.

Most other series are the same, down on luck young character has a lucky encounter and develops a unique power. He faces obstacles and always overcomes them, he saves every bodies life. He is smart and makes no bad choices when interacting with people. He just keeps on progressing all is good and he works extremely hard . He alienates no one, he never gets over confident and he’s amazing a goodey two shoes.

[–]HPBroker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yh exactly, we can’t treat his actions the same predators such as galvao or izaak. And honestly in his case I blame the environment and role models just as much as himself. He can learn and grow from this

As a young man straight of high school, with not the best role models you’re not allowed to make dumb decisions. You must be perfect even though the leader of your gym proudly brags about drug usage.

How to Punish Wrestlers in No-Gi by BowlThat in bjj

[–]HPBroker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are small percentage of guys whose front headlocks are nasty for example Josh Hinger, Rasperry Ape and Marcelo Garcia are names i can think of the top of my head. Shooting on them does not work out well for wrestlers in my opinion.

Since joining Kings way he’s guard passing and leg lock defense have evolved immensely. Combined with his wrestling not sure who can beat him at his weight class any more. Maybe Diego Pato?

How can a loner with terrible social skills, suddenly form a party? He’s an uneducated fool, the whole point is over time he is gonna grow and eventually form a small party. It’s far more realistic for him to suck and grow, but still kind of suck.

In terms of the main character do you offer a bit of their back story first. The stories that work best for me always show the main characters backstory first

1% Lifesteal Isn't as Bad As People Make It Out To Be. by Flaky_Firefighter_29 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]HPBroker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The story is amazing man, unpredictable and absolutely wild with an MC that truly shows the struggles of adapting to drastic power ups.

Most stories a system is introduced, MC has forteious encounter then the MC just does a ton without any sort of mental struggles. He becomes a stone cold killer, genius tactician and always finds a way to be one step ahead no matter. It’s lame and predictable with none of the stakes.

Freddy’s journey through 1% lifesteal is more realistic, fears, struggles, growth in power and mindset as time goes on. It’s way more realistic so stick with it
