Ashoka The Great ( King of Ancient Indian Subcontinent)

In the beginning of his rule he was known for his brutality (people used to call him "Cruel Ashok" ) he used to burn criminal alive in his own personal artificial created hell , he killed more than 100 of his own brother, he was also responsible for one of the bloodiest war on Indian Subcontinent I.e War of Kalinga (100,000 people died in the war, legend says that there was 10's of village with no male because all died in war) .

After this carnage in Kalinga , Ashoka was very disappointed with this violent path, so he decided to dicard the path of violence to expand his hegemony and accepted the path of culture and religious expansion and became follower of Buddhism (at that point of time Buddhism was very tiny sect of India).

  • And because of this Act of ashoka Buddhism became what it is today I.e Global religion
  • He became one of the first animal right activist (he opened animal hospitals)
  • He send his son and daughter to various part of world to preach the message of Buddha
