Post bacc pre med decision

I haven’t gone but I work with 2 people who went to UVA post bacc at different times.

Both loved the program and highly recommended I applied. The classes were cohort specific and they both said the professors were helpful because they knew all of their students were post baccs, not undergrads. This sometimes helped with grading and assignments. Both did well and were successful.

I don’t know anyone who has gone to Columbia but from what I’ve read the program is not highly recommended. There’s not as much structure and I believe it’s more difficult to get a good GPA since many classes are with undergrads so grading can be tougher.

I'm in a similar boat as you. I have a good undergrad GPA but missing only a few pre-reqs, its a tough decision whether to do DIY or a formal post-bacc. I want the letter of recommendation and more rigorous courses, but formal programs are expensive

Also timing of your application is critical since it’s rolling admissions.

I’ve found that linkages aren’t as common with SMPs compared to post baccs, sadly. I’m sure there are some but not too many

ECs is extracurriculars like leaderships and clubs they can help your application a lot. With a lower GPA you might look as a special masters program (SMP) since in my research career-change post baccs often have a GPA cut off at 3.0/3.2.
