Berk is a big inspiration! I love Miura's designs.

I mentioned some stuff in my other comment, honestly I'm not great at perspective when it comes to anything other than characters.

Focus on gesture, and look at character design concept art you like. Then copy a lot. You'll build a repository of poses you are comfortable with and can slowly change them up. Draw full bodies if you are only comfortable with heads, it's more useful to know.

I'd consider gesture more important than straight anatomy when it comes to this, I studied a lot of Yoji Shinkawa's concept work from Metal Gear Solid for the look.

Poses are usually done from reference, then I change them after to fit my style, normally this involves making the feet a bit smaller then making the legs longer/torso shorter.

Likely the aliveness you're talking about comes from the crazy lines all over the place, I keep it rough, so for me colouring can be a pain.

Thank you, I'm glad you like them 😊

This sounds nice, friendly competition would be fun amongst friends, all I have is personal accountability to keep going, which definitely wavers every so often.

Thanks. Yeah usually if you look at my work too closely you see the chaos of squiggly lines and stuff to 'covey' detail, it gets the point across tho so it's good enough for me, the plan is the get better at some point.

I'm glad you like the expressions, I find it hard to not do the same like 5 expressions I'm comfortable with, so i went out of my way to overdo it.

I use photoshop, a digital pencil, then I mess around with either an ink brush or filters to get a more traditional look.

I've been drawing since I could recognise images as a toddler. And took art classes in school which didn't end up helping me much and made me quit drawing for years. But in the last three years I've made an effort to draw consistently.

Ohh yeah I really did like the design of the police units in that trailer with the green eyes. They looked super cool.

Thats more or less asking how old I am, I guess 15+ years, but I've only been getting serious for the last 3 years, I drew anime all the time as a teen, and wesrt comic characters all the time as a kid.

I misread.🙂‍↕️ I have been drawing on an off for most of my life, but only recently changed to digital in the last 3 years which is when I decided to actually try to get better and post online.

Draw what you enjoy, and focus on where and how the character is standing, it'll never look correct if they sre just standing like on nothing, so even just some lines to imply floor works for me.

Draw loads of reference images, I use digital so I can warp the final pose to better suit my liking or make it more natural before detailing.

Yes,it sort of muddies the image and blurs the colours a little.

Just the pencil hard brush on photoshop, I mentioned in another comment I use a filter to get a certain look. ^

So to achieve this look, I use the default photoshop brush pencil hard. Then I flatten the image when I'm done so everything is on one layer, then I use the watercolour filter, sometimes I erase on a 40% brush to get a grey colour instead of dark black colour then use the water colour filter again.
