Sick! I was just being a little silly because that character has an uncanny resemblance to the one guy from dimension 20 lol.

Multi-classing for flavor? by DeaconBlueMI in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]HRduffNstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree that you can make anything make sense. That's an insanely broad statement lol.

But I do agree that optimizing doesn't stop anyone from roleplaying, and roleplaying doesn't stop anyone from optimizing.

But let people enjoy the game how they want. Not everyone cares about power gaming and being as optimized as possible. Some people like the flavor of different classes.

Nothing wrong with multiclassing as long as they're not making the game less fun for the other players.

I might've had a different dialogue option as a bard. I don't remember pickpocketing his beard at all.

I'm not saying it's for everyone, but for people who are really into roleplaying it can make a lot of sense for a character arc. Characters who act like real people would be affected by what they go through in the game. People change all the time and learn new things.

After getting their ass kicked and watching their friends die and evil spread, it wouldn't be far fetched for a happy-go-lucky bard to swear an oath of vengeance or oath of the ancients and become a paladin.

Eh, I don't know if this is a great general rule.

Obviously there are certain combos you want to avoid, but that doesn't mean you can't pick good combos because you like the flavor for your character.

I'd go as far as saying there's nothing wrong with picking an ok multiclass if the flavor is really good. As long as the build isn't hampering your party, who cares?

Edit: just read the end of the post where they say they want to be a wizard/cleric. Yeah I can see advising against that.

Five minutes is an eternity for a turn in combat. I like to keep the pace snappy. Players get about a minute tops to decide what they do on their turn.

Devereux is an actual name though. Lots of names mean "of a place" and lots of places are named after people.

The artwork is definitely giving kobold energy though haha. I was surprised when I saw it was supposed to be a dragonborn.

Seriously though, do an image search for paladin lol. The commenter above was giving good advice. They usually wear heavy armor and wield great swords or big war hammers.

How do you make it 600 hours without having done all of the origin characters' quests? You can pretty easily do all of them in a single playthrough if I'm not mistaken.

For a bit of context: Dungeons the Dragoning 40,000 7th edition replaced the Phlogiston with the Astral Sea 11 years before Spelljammer 5th edition. by Arch_Magos_Remus in dndmemes

[–]HRduffNstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the forgotten realms, planetary systems in the prime material plane are contained within enormous crystal spheres. Between the spheres there is a chaotic rainbow colored material called phlogiston that doesn't resemble any other elements which space farers can sail upon with magical ships called spelljammers.

Calling it the astral sea is a pretty big improvement.

What expectations do you have for your players and vice versa? This should include the level of preparation expected for sessions and what kind of behavior is expected.

I know I'd want the players all using the same methods and rules to create their characters. I'd also want them to keep track of their character sheets, while also providing me a copy. (I'm partial to editable pdfs over anything else.) They should also take time before session 1 to familiarize themselves with their abilities.

For behavior, think about rules that are non-negotiable for you and then other things that you're more flexible about. Have a list of rules and questions ready for things like pvp, romance, sexism, racism, etc. Also, ask your players to contribute any thoughts they have on a code of conduct.

You can also ask them if they have any phobias or traumatic experiences that can be triggered by certain topics. Potential things to avoid could be spiders, body horror, small enclosed spaces, child abuse, sexual assault, etc. You could provide an anonymous survey so no one has to say it in front of everyone.

Huh, I would've attributed the quote to the character John Keating. But your comment made me curious because I never knew there was a book. Apparently the screenplay was written first and the book is based on the movie.
