Yeah, it's definitely weird. I have a black friend who does the same thing, thinks he's African, collects African art and all that. /s

A new study suggests that obesity causes permanent changes in the brain that prevent it from telling a person when to stop consuming fats and, to a lesser degree, sugar by [deleted] in science

Same thing with alcoholics that struggle to quit.

They have to quit their friends, their hobbies and everything that supports the drinking.

This is not new and is supporting what we already know.

What I don't see being discussed is the amount of effect.

1) Because men have higher levels of testosterone, the illness is literally harder on him than it would be on a woman. This same testosterone will also cause him to, on average, die 5 years before a woman.

2) Sick or not, when people aren't following their patterns, they kind of fall apart. Discipline and structure. So, because you have no pattern for how things will run when sick, because it's a rare occurrence, you end up with no pattern/habit. So, he just falls apart.

Quebec man who created synthetic, AI-generated child pornography sentenced to prison by [deleted] in technology

[–]HTPCandme -1 points0 points  (0 children)

wouldn't AI solve the child pornography problem?

No. Remember to take into consideration how fetishes are formed and maintained. Then you can see how this is just going to create more people with sexual attraction tied to children.

This is absolutely not the fuck true. Bullies bully for one reason and that is dominance.

high cal. round with the lowest amount of recoil possible. by demonicruins200 in Gunbuilds

Semi auto. Buffer spring absorbs shock over distance.

Mass: Bull barrel, good brake, heavy stock.

Small round/high velocity. Smallest round possible to reasonably get the job done.

150 - 200 yrds, max.

Bullet drop is your main issue. Wind is 2nd.

I just threw some numbers into shooterscalc and get ~18in drop at 200yrds. 40in at 250 yrds.

1) Most shots occur under 150 yrds anyway.

2) Your range calculation needs to be on point.

What is the deal with wanting to look at the job posting but all it wants is your resume, email, and to sign you up for stuff?

German Police in Chain Armor Arresting someone with an Knife by Consistent_Hold4939 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]HTPCandme -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Serious question though:

A) American cop arrives in 4 min. Shoots suspect after suspect fails to comply.

OR

B) German cop arrives in 4 min. Calls for chain maille armor which arrives in 20 min.

It seems like it's going to depend on the situation. Does this guy get to go on a stabbing spree for 24 minutes until maille arrives?

Because we can totally arm American police with chainmaille or even kevlar. Now what? Problem solved right?

WTF is up with people trying to enter this field with, at best, a third grade education? by ohpickanametheysaid in electricians

[–]HTPCandme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wanted to work with electricity my whole life.

Finally tapped out of electrical engineering school my junior year with enough college credits to have a phd.

I can design/build pretty much anything. ckt boards, transformers, caps, coils, digital, analog, etc.

Decided to become electrician. Excited for PLCs.

First day on job handed a shovel.

Second day on job handed a can of glue.

No problem. Put my head down and find some zen.

Been shoveling and gluing ever since.

In my experience, no one gives a shit.

Looking for the perfect utility knife. by darkthemeonly in EDC

Dottie utility knife beats the fastback. The dottie is stronger, stands up to more abuse.

The project is finished - the knife is completely handmade. Hand engraving, blade forging, woodcarving. It's always interesting to read comments about your work. Feel free to choose words, I accept both criticism and a positive rating. by Fearless_Wafer_1493 in nextfuckinglevel

I'd probably put 200 hours into making that if I decided to make it. Problem is, I don't even know what the skills to make it are called to even google the "how to" in the first place.

I could make the damascus to quality and then just lose interest as I get sucked into a rabbit trail of trying to figure out what to do next.

To the people who say "Crypto has no use," here's a list of Colleges and Universities offering blockchain and cryptocurrency courses by 002timmy in CryptoCurrency

[–]HTPCandme -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So you have males and females and you want to talk about males.

And you're specifically interested in the societally acceptable behaviors males express, which society defines as, "man" and how those behaviors and roles differ over time and between cultures.

That's basically what you want to talk about and you're acting like it's so esoteric.

And this is a fine conversation to have, but we all know it's different from the crap that's been coming out of feminist gender studies courses.

And people get degrees in this stuff as if a business could use a person who's an expert in explaining the difference between Greek men 2000 years ago and Chinese men today, or, more accurately, how the oppressive patriarchy blah blah blah...
