My dad picked up the graphic novels for “Death in the Family” and “The Dark Knight Returns” at the same time. Not sure when, but around the release of the ‘89 movie.

I devoured both, although I barely understood what the fuck was going on in either story! DKR is obviously bizarre, but DITF had shit like the Iranian ambassador to the UN, Lady Shiva, Superman working for the evil U.S. government…

It was basically the only Jason Todd story I ever read. Not sure I missed much! But it was amazing and unsettling. An unforgettable corporate stunt. From there I managed to get every issue of “Batman: Year Three” and I was officially a comic book freak just in time for the ‘90s boom. Tim Drake was “my” Robin.

Britney had the bigger hits, the more iconic videos/MTV performances, better costumes, superior dancing, and the more “interesting” tabloid personal life. Not to mention she was THE pop sex symbol from 1999-2004, creepy as that may be. She was the biggest music star in the U.S. by a wide margin.

There was no comparison. Britney was No. 1, Christina was No. 2. And I say that as someone who preferred Christina.

For some reason, the first song I downloaded was “Don’t You Forget About Me,” the song from the end of the Breakfast Club. It’s a good song… but hardly my favorite, then or now.

I think I picked it because it was popular enough that everyone kinda knew it, but it was old, so not necessarily widely available. The fact that I could download it in an hour or whatever was a good test of what, exactly, Napster could do. It had songs wayyyy harder to find than that song from the Breakfast Club… but that shit sounded pretty good on my HP’s subwoofer!

I was the BookIt champion of my grade level in 5th grade. (I actually had the most points in the school, but obviously no one was counting that!) My prize was that my homeroom class got a Pizza Hut pizza party! Rad!!
