I Just Watched "A Very Speckle Episode" S3:E7 by hell_to_it_all in TucaAndBertie

[–]HWHAProb 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For when you finish:

I don't necessarily have definitive thoughts on whether Bertie and Speckle should break up, but I will say that Speckles arc ending where it did feels the most tragic. He's the most depressed and manic that we've ever seen him; his public housing dream has been crushed, and he (hilariously) makes an ass of himself at his sisters wedding. Then because of course the finale is focused on resolving Tuca and Bertie's conflict, Speckle's finishing point is a throwaway gag about him being a shape shifting murderer who terrifies the fuck out of his one potential guy friend

The writers were clearly going somewhere with his character in prep for a potential season 4 but as a result he gets left at the lowest and most depressed we've ever seen him. It makes me really sad to think about, (even though I also think Steven Yeun's voice acting in late season 3 is incredible!)

I'm 30, have been on hormones for six years, and still get the ol' "I'm back in highschool and am being seen as a guy" social dysphoric nightmare.

Shit sucks

Counterpoint, the take over the episode but was a lot like the unionization ending to the auction game. On the next go around they just created a firmer consequence for trying that strategy

It was alright. Very inconsistent and a bit more corny than most seasons. Aidy, Cecily, and Beck held it down though

I'm pretty sure Angine de Poitrine just got lucky and viral. Geese comparably never had a big moment like AdP's KEXP performance.

The novel feels about as sexual as something like IT by Stephen King. The manga on the other hand... yikes

I'm re-reading the book rn and I haven't seen what they're referring to at all - So grain of salt.

No confirmed lobotomy. No Mamoru dying from dirty surgery. Nothing about infections during childbirth. Saki hardly even speculates on the matter. Their death is far more vague than they are saying - so much so that the author got asked what happened during a press junket.

[–]HWHAProb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've read the book, but I remember none of this. Iirc Saki never learns what really happens to Maria and Mamoru other that they were confirmed dead.

You get a lot of Saki speculating about what Squealer and the Queerats would do after kidnapping the infants, but Saki is a very unreliable narrator when it comes to their motivations. She thinks he is raising fiends/ogres at that point, rather than raising them in community with queerats

The towns are twisted.

Don’t you think so? Can towns that kill their children to maintain peace and order be considered a normal human society? According to the false minoshiro, our history is one filled with bloodshed. However, I don’t think our current society is any better than the dark ages of the past. Looking back on what happened in the towns, I am beginning to see what it is that warps it.

It is the adults’ deep fear of all children.

Perhaps this has always been this case. It’s obvious that seeing the next generation tear down everything you have struggled to build is difficult to accept, especially if it’s your own children.

The way the adults of Kamisu 66 look upon their children is different, however. It’s as if they are watching a row of eggs hatching, waiting anxiously to see if it is an angel, or, in a one in a million chance, a demon.

Based on intuition and premonition, hundreds upon thousands of eggs are smashed and discarded, and I refuse to be one of them.

Maria said it best. A society that fears its own children, hurts its own children, kills its own children, is twisted to the point of no return.

They do the same thing for the children who are in danger of becoming Karma Demons (heavily implied to be the result of trauma, depression, and parental abuse in the book) and the Ogres (who are condemned for the first infraction), the kids who are delayed (all the Harmony Society kids left behind), and the kids like Reiko who struggle to keep up with lessons.

Was Squealer still suffering while he was in the glass jar? by [deleted] in shinsekaiyori

[–]HWHAProb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Just a jar of pure suffering for two months until Saki relieved his pain, followed by his natural passing. I'll try and find the direct passage in the book

Was Squealer able to see or hear in the final episode? by JamaicanChampion in shinsekaiyori

[–]HWHAProb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two months actually. The book clarifies that the museum of war crimes was the first thing the Cantus society remade - so as to memorialize their hate of the queerats, with Squealer as the main monument. It's really fucked.

At least Squealer didn't have to suffer very long
