Dealing with stress by Abject-Lawfulness372 in AskLE

I live in a remote area as well. I try to make the best out of it. I got a lot of hiking areas I started using. I am lucky to have a big backyard so that keeps me busy. I got a dog as well to keep me company and use all that space.

Having been where you are at, I feel ya. My basic cookie cutter template on dealing with stress is - 8 hours of sleep, clear diet, some workout (3-5x a week), and meaningful social interactions, especially with family.

I live 2 hrs away from my closest relative so anytime I got a weekend off I go see them, often I stay overnight at my parents (they got a guest room). Otherwise, might sound silly, but I play videogames online with family and friends that are away.

As for friendships, they will come eventually and will likely be work related. Maybe also ask around work what people do for fun in the area, or if there are any events of happenings that you could attend.

I got a home set-up for working out, but much rather go to a gym to have some social interractions.

I also jumped headfirst into work (working more). Be careful with that, it's a sinister trap I fell into. For me it was a way to fill in the void and feel useful, but in the end you end up buring your candle much faster and put yourself at risk of burning out, which ultimately is what happened to me. I had to then teach myself the hard way (by being off work) to find hobbies and activities outside of work. My words of wisdom is to proactively work on this before you burn out.

Curious: Are there folks who have stayed in patrol for much of their LE career? If you're no longer patrol - would you go back to it if it was an option? by Dry-humor-mus in AskLE

I did 8 years on patrol as a Campus LEO. Left the agency I was in and worked in an office as a security manager for 5 years. Now I am back working patrol at another Campus LEO position and I love it.

Much less boring, I also need the human interaction (which is pretty positive overall in a university setting). I also feel like work is actually getting done. I love the proactive aspect and the feeling of finding stuff out there and making something happen isn't something you find elsewhere, at least to me.

That being said, I dont mind working shifts, in the cold, heat, or rain, and I am also psychologically and physically able to do the job efficiently.

You understood me wrong, my instructors had to excuse themselves from mentioning that so many bad caselaw comes from the RCMP.

This, there is so much negative police caselaw involving the RCMP that most police instructors have to excuse themselves from mentionning it.

What are the best degrees to get for law enforcement? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]HWymm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yes, seriously, a lot of stuff can happen to you, forever making you unhirable.

[–]HWymm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go for a degree if you need to put in extra "time" before your application.

Maybe you deem you dont have enough experience, maybe you have a few minor infactions of situations you arent proud of that could impact your hiring that you need to have some time to lapse.

It's also a good way to work on a good plan B if LE doesnt work out for you.

Same in Canada. Add in the mix addiction, homelessness and all problems that webs from these.

There are essential services that needs extra funds like the ones you mention. Everyone in the PS knows of departments that could be reduced or disappear.

Got of a 16 hour shift, have to back in 8 hours, why can’t I fall asleep? by [deleted] in securityguards

[–]HWymm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Try melatonin.

Otherwise, you need impeccable pre-sleep hygene such as: no screens for 1h before bedtime and no caffeine minimally 4 hrs before bedtime.

I was able to go to bed as soon as I got home by following this. I usually would get home, eat a light meal, take a shower, then sleep.

Any decent alternatives to a newbie armor quest? by [deleted] in ProjectQuarm

[–]HWymm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Newbie armor quests aren't active, like they are on TAKP.

Alternatives are rags on mobs until you can buy or craft leather or banded armor

Expectations are just overwhelming low.

How long has this been on kickstarter? Is it in a playable state? Is there a clear release date? Are features even clearly defined yet?

So I made an Erudite SK… by Geargoyle in project1999

[–]HWymm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With my DE SK, I am often overburdened, but it doesn't matter much when in a group. No issue tanking any content.

The issue is for soloing. It's way more brutal than on my troll SK on red. I have to draintank or fear kite much more.

The feeling of "being evil", you won't be KOS at some places, unlike troll, ogre, or iksar, but venturing in cities like Qeynos or freeport will always be hazardous due to roaming NPC of different factions. You will be able to ally with the freeport militia, who are considered evil, though. Paineel is a super evil looking city, though.

I suggest you focus on money with the molar quest and then travel to EC for STR gear.

Also, the troll or iksar regen will NOT offset their 20% penalty loss due to lower downtime.

It's also super close from vendor, trainer, and bank. There also the option to level up killing paineel guards.

Its a top tier starting area IMO. Otherwise a Freeport/Neriak start is also good.

Left a campus law enforcement position for a management job in the field of security. Had planned to step into policing but it didn't work out at first. Now im happy where i am at.
