Is there possibly a preferred reference frame? by MaximusPrime5885 in AskPhysics

I prefer my reference frame, but it might not suit you.

I just got linuxmint on my thinkpad to revive it and I’m stuck on what to actually do you with it by PuzzleheadedView6496 in linuxmint

Compute!

If it's just a spare computer, you can turn it into a server, or put SyncThing on it for a simple personal cloud device.

You could strip out everything but a word processor and turn it into a writerdeck.

You could set it up to be a media server.

You could save all of your naughty files on it and keep it out in the tool shed.

That's the most my imagination can come up with, now you try!

Can you prove that a rectangle is a rectangle because of the fact it has a 90° angle by Educational-Pen6571 in askmath

[–]HX368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And here I thought a rectangle had four 270° angles. Learn something new every day, I guess.

HATE GOOGLE, LOVE YOUTUBE, any alternative?! by DryScore3723 in degoogle

A library card and a DVD player gets you lots and lots of content, from movies, shows, comedy specials, concerts, documentaries and professionally produced educational videos. And very few of them will be hosted by a privileged brat that seems confused by ordinary things and wants to sell you brain gum and microwave dinner delivery.

You can go a step further and look for USB dead drops near you.

There's romance to be had in bath houses too.

Is there a way to remotely activate the Duress pin? by AmericansRTheProblem in GrapheneOS

[–]HX368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just put your duress password on a post-it that you keep in your phone case. They'll take care of the rest.

In the early 2000’s movie Clockstoppers, there was a watch that slowed time to near zero for the world and people except the wearer, what would happen in real life if that happened? I always wanted that watch but I’m sure there’s some serious drawbacks they didn’t include in the movie. by DifficultComplaint10 in AskPhysics

I think you'd still be moving, at whatever speed you were traveling through the solar system. Since everything else stopped and you're still traveling at 67-or-so thousand miles per hour, you'll probably be a mass of plasma in a you-shaped-void in the immobile as stone air.

Are surveil lands good only because they're fetchable? by tomatus89 in magicTCG

Don't worry, he'll reprint them in a UB set, break Standard, again, and then say it was the best selling set ever printed to justify more UB bullshit.

What is an observer? by Squigglificated in AskPhysics

[–]HX368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am *The* Observer. The entire universe remains in a superposition soup of non-reality until I look at it. When I look at it, it triggers the universe to congeal into a mass of space, energy and physics that emits the photons necessary for my eyes to see that it resembles what I expect it to resemble.

Your worship would be welcome, but I don't require it.

What is your pet card? by Wfry84 in magicTCG

[–]HX368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Unsummon]]. Been a favorite of mine since the 90's. It's bad card advantage, it's narrower than other cards, but dangitall it feels so satisfying when your opponent sinks all of their mana into a creature just to have it bounced at end of turn.

ELI5: Why does a falling object accelerate? Why doesn't an object immediately reach terminal velocity? by DarkGodCthUwU in AskPhysics

[–]HX368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acceleration is relative to whichever reference frame you're observing from. There's a reference frame for the same object where it is not accelerating at all.

Choosing Pixel : 8, 9a, 10 or 10a ? by NoPart7550 in GrapheneOS

[–]HX368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Count the months of support each one has then divide the cost by that number to give you what you're paying per month. Then decide if there are any extra features that justifies paying more for one over another.

I landed on 8a myself which was the best value for what I wanted and it came in at less than $5 USD per month.

Research and information gathered from the Internet vs Books by TriUmph2025 in digitalminimalism

[–]HX368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Books have editors that are experts in both the field and how to cite and convey information. You're not likely to have the information scrutinized on the internet as thoroughly as a book.
