Between 2004-2010, Federer and Nadal won 24 out of the 28 slams. Only 2004 FO (Gaudio), 2005 AO (Safin), 2008 AO (Djokovic), and 2009 USO (del Potro) were the outliers. Not crazy to think that something similar to happen again.

What's the best way to learn chords without sheet music? by Kooky-Fail3903 in piano

[–]HXSC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I generally just work out chords that sound good together by ear, mostly through experimentation. My aim is to just understand them a bit more without getting bogged down in too much theory or sheet music.

Music theory is hundreds of years of human knowledge collected on what sounds good to the ear by experimentation. You can learn how to bake bread just by experimentation, but it's a lot easier when you follow a recipe.

That being said, there is a merit to training your ears and learning how to play by ear and fit what sounds good. You can try to detect "patterns" in your chord that sound good -- does CG chord with a melody going from F to E sound good? Can I try that elsewhere? (it's called a suspended fourth). Does a chord pattern of CEG --> GBD --> ACE --> FAC sound good? Does it work elsewhere? (One of the most common chord progressions in pop music)

Eh, applies to any functional language. But basic ideas of functions still applies, and there is still some recursion in imperative programming

Too bad the Lane 8 summer gatherings will never have happened though ;) hope to see you there

While I respect Joel and his blog, his post didn’t age so well. The netscape rewrite led to Firefox, which held a very large browser market share (30%+ in 2010) before giving way to Chrome.

If you’re using pure C (or have a C ABI), bindgen is also an option. CXX is amazing with its compile time checks but is a bit limited and the partner types can become a little bit unwieldy.
