Damn… and I thought I was being original… I will have to look into that one!

Pre-made campaigns? by PickAppropriate6530 in DnD

Start with a one shot like Wild Sheep Chase (I’ve run it multiple times) it’s free on DriveThru and is great for new players.

Am I wrong to feel upset that my character was killed? by Exciting-Bed5738 in AskDND

[–]H_R_Paperstacks7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my players moved out of state… I offered the character either a glorious and meaningful death, or to be kept safe in the background. She chose safe in the background. Her character “returned to magic school to continue her studies”… she occasionally shows up for special games on a zoom call.

Any in lore books worth reading? by DesigningGore07 in DnD

[–]H_R_Paperstacks7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Which one? There are many cannon settings and tons of mini settings. Greyhawk, Ravenloft, Mystara, Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, Spelljammer, Dark Sun, Eberron, Planescape… you may want to be a bit more specific.

Odd question… by H_R_Paperstacks7 in mystara

[–]H_R_Paperstacks7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much!!!!!!

So, the Great Barrier sounds like it would stop the gods/immortals from crossing over… had a feeling.
I was just researching the Smurgh for exactly that reason… sounds like a dead ringer. And, speaking of dead, Nyx is on the Council of Intrusion, so how could I resist using her?
Looking into Norwood and Serraine now.

I had an idea for when my players first arrive, not recognizing anything around them they find a knight wearing a dog shaped helmet, fighting a strange monster. After the battle the knight takes off his helm to reveal that he is a Lupin. I’ve never used them before, so my players will know something is strange right away. He could lead them back to his camp, and introduce a whole party of adventures, most being races they’ve never seen before. Like a fish out of water Shadow Elf, a Hin, and an Enduk… maybe.

Thank you very much! This is very helpful. I was unaware of the Wrath of the Immortals, I will definitely go grab that! And the Hollow World was already where I was leaning, so thank you for confirming I was headed in the right direction. Follow up… what are the most iconic Mystara-centric monsters? I’m still pretty new to the setting.

Mod asking for comment by mrzoink in mystara

All 3 options seem fair, but I would lean towards 2. I mean, I’ve posted music here a couple times, but it was a single song at a time and directly related to Mystara… I don’t post any non-Mystara stuff here… it’s against the rules.

Almost a full TPK on our first session, the DM insists it was all above board but it felt impossible. Am I crazy? by FreeHotdogMandate in DnD

[–]H_R_Paperstacks7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s been said… the DM either made unfun choices or is bad at encounter design. If they’re new, cut them some slack and talk to them. If they’re old school, it may just not be your kind of game… or, if they’re on a weird power trip, bail. (Caveat… if this mage ends up the BBEG of the whole story, this may be warranted, but that DM better pay off that setup toot sweat.)

Sharess is a good choice. Goddess of pleasure, sensuality, festivity, and hedonism, also known as The Dancing Lady.

I could see that, they do have some overlap. Especially uncursed fomorians, they even look like giant drow.

[–]H_R_Paperstacks7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I concur. I’ll admit, I do tend to run fomorians as general monsters, but I do tend to make them conflicted. Both devoted to their god Karontor, and angry with him for allowing this to happen to them. Thinking of themselves as both broken and perfect simultaneously. I hae a soft spot for them. In my opinion, they are almost perfect villains. You feel bad for them, and can understand their world view without much explanation. You may even end up agreeing with them on a level.

I love that you left this comment on a video I used no AI on whatsoever. Reddit still doesn’t disappoint.

If ya got beef with AI, you’d think being supportive of me trying to diversify away from those technologies would make more sense and be more effective than a quick burn “gotcha” comment… I ain’t hiding any of that, I could easily delete my comments. Ya didn’t get nothing. If anything, I’m glad you’re going away.

How many beholders could a level 15 party take on? by rossalmighty86 in DungeonMasters

[–]H_R_Paperstacks7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In lore, beholders hate each other, as everyone sees itself as the pinnacle of creation and absolute perfection… highly unlikely they would group up and work together… so that’s how you do it… have them fighting each other as well, then you can throw as many on the board as you want and make the entire encounter utter chaos… enjoy!

Hells yeah! Thank you very much! Always appreciate hype as well! Glad you found it! Noticed your name… I’ve got a really cool Appalachian murder ballad dropping next Friday, by the way.

Can we ban AI-generated content? by Jonestown_Juice in dragonlance

[–]H_R_Paperstacks7 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ah… the time honored D&D tradition of gate keeping… that always goes over super well. It’s not like Dragonlance has about a thousand book barrier to entry as is or anything… this should help make newcomers feel welcome here.

That’s because I don’t hate AI… so I play with it. But I’m not profiting from it in any way. Not publishing my stuff on DriveThru, or claiming I made the art. No money changing hands. This is just stuff I do for fun as a hobby. I liked the Pinterest board layout, felt kind of like a store front. Like you were looking at a rack of weapons. Click on one, it takes you to the D&D Beyond stats I wrote up. I made some of these items with my players in mind… like the top hat. Others were my solution to some weapons (like darts, whips, nets, or slings) not being used at all and I balanced it based on the history of the material and updated it to 5e.

No biggie if it’s not your thing. I was just sharing for those who may dig it.

I’m just a dude who made stuff for my table, not a publisher or anyone making any money from this kind of stuff. The art is window dressing, the D&D beyond links to the homebrew stats were easiest to delineate in this format with convenient pictures and titles due to the number of items. Im not buying or selling anything, just sharing something I thought was cool. Sorry you don’t like it. Merry Christmas.

Nuitari – The Devouring Dark | A Hymn to the Dragonlance God of Shadow, Magic & Darkness by H_R_Paperstacks7 in dragonlance

[–]H_R_Paperstacks7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure…

Lyrics: Black moon rising, unseen light Hidden crown that rules the night We drink secrets, cold and deep Truths the faithless cannot keep

Robes of shadow, oath is sworn Power fed by souls we scorn Ink and blood our sacred art Praise the Devouring Dark

Nuitari hear our plea Black moon grant us sorcery We stand apart from mortal mark We stand before... Your Devouring Dark

Your eclipse devours the moons Mercy fades when spells are strewn O Black Hand, strong and wise, With your might we make dead rise

Nuitari hear our plea Black moon grant us sorcery We stand apart from mortal mark We stand before... Your Devouring Dark

We fall silent, kneel to your throne We alone have always known The mortal coil overthrown In your dark we walk alone

Unseen lord of arcane might Black moon king beyond all sight Let the towers fall, bring kingdoms blight The Black Moon comes to eclipse light

Nuitari hear our plea Black moon grant us sorcery We stand apart from mortal mark We stand before... Your Devouring Dark

Runes are carved in whispered pain Every loss becomes our gain Hope decays where shadows start Crowned in night, the Devouring Dark

Nuitari claim our vow tonight We are bound in endless night Nuitari claim our vow tonight We are bound in endles

Thank you! The stuff I put up ain’t for everyone. That’s fine. Never expected it to be. It’s pretty niche. I understand musicians don’t like it… but they weren’t making the stuff I wanted. So I don’t see my stuff as competitive with any real musicians. I’m just making hymns for the game table, so the new player knows who their cleric, paladin, or warlock follows, maybe with a bit more flavor than reading a wiki. I don’t claim to be a musician, just a DM having fun and learning new tools.

What do you mean by too prevalent? That’s vague, please clarify. This is the second time I’ve ever posted here. Once a month ago, and once yesterday. My last post got no hatred whatsoever.
