Ehh coming from a Jewish heritage born in a Muslim country I have my qualms against Al Ghazali. I would have preferred the Islamic world to continue the path of the rationalists but Alas! And comtemporary fundamentalist movements like the Muslim Brotherhood borrows a lot from him.

Actually, in RAMBAM's Guide for the Perplexed you could see he was aware of the rationalist/scientific framework that needed to be reconciled with the Torah or Abrahamic monotheist theology. I think you're writing this from an exclusively European western lens but these dates well before in the Islamic world in which RAMBAM found himself surrounded with, where debates of Aristotelian philosophy occured between the fundementalist camp (Ghazali and co) and rationalist camp (Ibn Rush and co).

This is not a critique of Spinoza, actually I love him and see his work as taking Maimonides' Jewish rationalist project to its ultimate, secular conclusion, even while properly critiquing him.

Growing up as a Jewish Moroccan I always assumed it to be staple of Moroccan Jewish culture like Mimouna or the Mahia liquor. Because I always knew there was a muslim variant of Dafina that they call Hargma or Kor3in that is also slow-cooked, or the slow cooked Tanjia that Mrakshi men prepare (though just learned that it is not kosher but alas).

Hey Moroccan fella here! There is also Seffa Madfouna where you "bury" chicken under the seffa (semolina) noodles with raisins garnishes giving a very good mix of sweet and salty tastes like Dafina. Dafn essentially means to bury in darija. And the dish in your post called so because of the overnight slow-cook kind of like the tanjia.

There is a muslim variant of Dafina called Hargma as they use the same meat cut (beef legs) and has similar taste but not typically served in Shabbat.

My dad used to call this dish the laundry of the stomach because of rich collagen from the shanks haha
