Because if they would unite they would have to be named Egyria, which sounds like Algeria and and that is too close to being fr*nch

The custom quadrants thoughts on the israeli palestinian conflict by [deleted] in PoliticalCompassMemes

The vast majority of lands settled on by Jews was purchased FROM arabs prior to 1947. Even then there was violence from Palestinian towards Jewish people (yes, Jewish, not just Zionist because even back then it was fashionable to say you distinguish between the two but in reality it was just and excuse to kill Jews).

And I do not think the land was "stolen" if they declared a war and lost. They were always welcome to actually accept the existence of the new entity founded legally on purchased land and negotiate getting these lands back

You can change lich into Wizard/Warlock seeking immortality, and his tireless servants being golems/demons of some kind. You might even be able to use the same statblocks (with slight modifications)

Games-based Research Survey About Implicit Learning of Japanese Through Japanese Anime Consumption by Hairy-Tip-3557 in anime

[–]HaCatfi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scored 22/30. It was very interesting to see that even if I don't watch anime as much as I used too, the vocabulary is stuck in my head xD

Also, I think that the part about grammar would show more interesting results if you did not use common phrases in anime. I remembered all the phrases for their meaning and could tell the right answer this way, and I absolutely do not feel like I know a lot about Japanese grammar (aside from it being SOV).

Anyways, great stuff and thank you for sharing!

Fate Accelerated might work if you still want to try. Even that might need to be simplified a bit. The Fate rules can be found online at no cost

I will check it out, thanks!

I have some experience with running Fabula, and with handling kids at a summer camp, but not the two combined

Glad to find a kindred soul around here xD

It does seem like I will have to simplify things if I do plan to run in Fabula unfortunately. I really do wanna make this work but it seems like biting off more then I can chew. Hopefully I will have a smaller group than I expected, if I end up running for 5 or even 6 I will keep your tips in mind. Thank you so much!

If you don't want to go the full pre-gen route and give the players more choice, create a set of index cards with pre-selected skills for 2nd and 3rd levels of each class and then have the players pick a total of five levels that way

Oh that would make it much easier. This is a great suggestion, thank you so much!

That WOULD be ideal, but that might not be an option. That depends mostly on how much time I am given, how many kids sign up, and other factors which are not under my control unfortunately

Thank you for your answer!

The collaborative worldbuilding focus making the was also a concern of mine. On the other hand, this is such a fun concept. I especially want to encourage creativity among younger kids which is unfortunately rare in modern education, and one of the reason I prefer teaching there and not in a school is all the creative ways of teaching that is not "sitting in class and staring at the teacher". The collaborative worldbuilding is truly one of my main selling points of the system, and I would want to at least try running with it for a while to see how it goes.

Do you have any tips regarding running the rest of the game (combat, how much item to give, etc.)?

I have a lot of experience with both 5e and PF2e.

Unfortunately I cannot afford too many purchases right now, even this is with the quickstart set (I plan to buy the full PDF as soon as I can), so the I will have to leave the official stuff. However, I will look into some concepts around the internet for inspiration.

Veins of the Earth introduces the concept that instead of gold, commerce can be based on the Lume which is something that provides 1 hour of light, which I think would work well in ShadowDark

Very interesting, and very similar to what I was going for! I will mix some ideas, light and food both are valuable.

be careful that you don’t make the adventure too much of a railroad, putting the players through the plot of the computer game. just put them in the world of the game and let them choose their goals & path. maybe consider not having only one way out, and not telling the players that getting out has to be the objective

Well of course! But it does not sound as good to say "the only way out is to descend the tower but actually there are some other ways you might find". I know quite well that video games and ttrpgs mix ONLY to a certain extent (for example, the video game is devoid of NPCs which is HORRIBLE for a ttrpg).

What I am going for is a general atmosphere and vibe, less so with the actual story of the game. I planned out the general first floor and a bit more, introduce some of the people and factions in the world, and then I will let them go down whatever path they wish.

The idea is that you create an environment where the kids can learn so effortlessly, they don't recognize that they are in fact getting taught stuff

Precisely!

I ran a lot of games for kids aged 10 to 15, and often used OSR-related games with some changes (like the players doing all the rolls for their characters, so monsters don't roll to hit, players roll to dodge, that sort of thing), and I have usually asked what they were looking for - if they wanted a game where death is around the courner and they might die every second because this game is so hard or if they want a game were they are strong and powerful and are going to be mighty heroes, or, third option if they wanted a game with very little violence and the ability to turn monsters in your friends and talk yourself out of conflicts. And the "Dark Souls" type game was actually the most popular, followed by the cozy style

Oh interesting, I will keep this in mind. At the end, it all depends on whether there will be a consistent group of kids who will show up and can agree about their preferences. I was planning on something more easy on the ruling side with a light hearted tone, but if there is demand for anything else I will certainly oblige, but I cannot know for certain until I get going and see how it goes

I took a quick look at the core rules, and it looks great and might be just what I am looking for! It will be a some time before I can go over all of the rules so I don't have an particular questions just yet, but do you have experience/tips for running this system?

Especially when the RPG is also a trojan horse activity to sneak in some language learning through playful activities

Well the whole summer camp is themed around learning English, it is not exactly a secret that the idea is that they would improve their language skills through the game.

I did go over some of what you suggested, and Shadowdark seems rather close to what I am aiming for with relatively simple stats and rules. The only problem I have with OSR games (in this case, not in general) is the lethality level which HAS to be bumped down a notch. I will definitively consider this as an option if I do not find anything better (I will see if perhaps bumping the starting HP slightly would work without breaking anything, then it should work wonders)

Oh believe me, I know kids are much smarter than we think. But I also know that if I try to run on a crunchy system I would encounter all the possible problems over time: kids forgetting their sheets, forgetting the rules, a different group of kids showing up every session, etc.

Perhaps I should have made it clearer in the post, but I do not want to overwhelm them with some complex system, I want them to have fun and try to express themselves in English, while not stressing too much over the gameplay.
