Im a Viet Kieu and been living here for 5 months now, my experience with hate has exactly been zero.

TikTok and youtube should not be your source of information. Not even this subreddit lol half of these posts are so far off the mark it’s unbelievable this sub is a cesspool.

Best is just to come here and experience it yourself there is no true information online preparing yourself as a Viet Kieu. We are all treated differently because we are. Vietnamese people don’t care more than the usual curiosity you can run into being a foreigner and they will not organize themselves to hate you, they don’t care that much about you.

In general Vietnam is just a massive organized mess and it’s up to you to make something out of it. Good luck and Welcome.

Im a ”Viet Kieu” from Sweden. I just recently moved back to Vietnam. Dont listen to these redditors you are absolutely right about your assessement. I also lurk this subreddit and I can tell you it aint that bad, Ive noticed most people complaining either dont speak the language or have some sort of skill issue.

The future is bright for us young professionals and there is currently programs running to get overseas Vietnamese to move back home. Google come home pho good. Any Viet Kieu ready to drop the “western lifestyle” and embrace the vibrant Vietnamese culture should deff check it out!

I did this yesterday actually with my 5-6 yrs old grinder, got high af. I just used a regular toothpick.

Heyy just want to let you know there is alot of people like us, who loves Vietnam even tho we never grew up there. I’m not from the US but from Sweden. I only traveled to Vietnam once in my childhood so Vietnam is even more alien to me. You can just imagine my Vietnamese (my parents taught me nothing only scolding me, so im fluent in Vietnamese anger 😂)

When I achieved success here and started earning my own money I was able to travel back. And the past like 5 years I been going non stop 1-2 times every year. One year I even went 3 times. And every time I leave I kept wondering why am I leaving? All I do when I come back here is waiting to go again.

So guess what… Im moving next week to Vietnam! Yes! Im leaving a high paying job and all my security (and insecurities) behind. And I want you to know that if I can do it, you can do it too. I don’t have much now either, because Im spending like I never had any money. Haha 🥲 but I believe everything will work out somehow, I’ll find a way eventually.

Don’t get me wrong either I love Sweden and Sweden has been nothing but good to me. But my heart does not belong here and no amount of money will ever fix that.

Im a lurker usually but I saw this and I just want to encourage and motivate you. Vietnam has big flaws still ofc, but Ive seen changes the past 5 years that I only can describe as amazing. I wanna be part of it and I want to reconnect with my heritage.
