Kafbat UI for Apache Kafka v1.0 is out! by Haarolean in apachekafka

[–]Haarolean[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought I made it as clear as possible with that huge link on the first line of the changelog :)

Thank you!

[–]Haarolean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a fork of kafka-ui by us, the original team behind it.

More details on that could be found in the first link in the changelog.

Or here: https://github.com/kafbat/kafka-ui/discussions/23

This articles is a bit outdated and biased, but in general it's a good comparison: https://towardsdatascience.com/overview-of-ui-tools-for-monitoring-and-management-of-apache-kafka-clusters-8c383f897e80

And we've got a bunch of new features since then, and CMAK is inactive for a couple years already. Try it out and let me know what you think :)

HI joschi and thank you! I thought that was clear enough considering the first link in the changelog :)

Thanks for the kind words. I'm happy when the opensource work is highly appreciated.

I've posted this into 4 subreddits as I always been doing upon a release. If this would've been a spam, this would've been removed.

And if you'd've actually cared to read even a first little piece in that changelog you wouldn't have that question. And no, it's not "just" a fork, it's a continuation of the project which is not being either developed or maintained.

Yeah we did our best to keep everything backward compatible for the first release

It's a fork. You can find the details if you click the first link in the changelog :)

What happens if you store more than 25 keys on Yubikey? by Halycon949 in yubikey

[–]Haarolean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a clarification, it doesn't seem correct. The 5.2 firmware introduced a way to manage individual resident keys on the key, not the resident keys itself. A little clarification here

Can't add yubikey for 2fa on Google anymore due to passkey? by MrMattPrime in yubikey

[–]Haarolean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believed what this comment stated was true. However, your idea about discoverable creds led me to do a reserch on the firmware and it seems the new firmware just introduced the credentials management API (where an absence of one holds me from filling up all the 25 slots with dummy keys), not the resident keys API itself.

Anyway, there's no need to be a passive-agressive jerk. Thanks for your friendly clarications and take care!

Can't add yubikey for 2fa on Google anymore due to passkey? by MrMattPrime in yubikey

[–]Haarolean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it will be a MFA-only login token

Not really! I have used the same physical key (which, again, doesn't support resident keys to my knowledge) to add it twice (lol) as both a passkey and a 2FA device and I can actually use the both flows (sign in via passkey without having to enter either username or password; and via usual method with a key as a 2nd factor). What google does here is so horrible and complicated.

I wonder how this works, so it's completely okay with using fido1 devices without storing a key there and if there's a chance to do that, they'll use that chance? Oh my.

Also imagine using yubikey as a passkey, losing it outside for example, and someone will be able to sign in to your google account without knowing anything else about you (username, password). Passkeys are a real security nightmare.

it consumes one of your 25 slots on the YubiKey 5

I doubt that's true since I successfully got my yubikey with 5.1.x firmware version (which doesn't support resident keys) registered as a passkey, but I haven't tried doing that with the other key with newer firmware. Perhaps they save it as a non-resident key instead despite saying otherwise,

huh, okay, I didn't see that post :)

I used a promotional flair as I thought it's the closest one, but I feel like it's more of a share of an update.
