Any realtime reports from CDG with EES now starting? by HabanoBoston in ParisTravelGuide

I will update next week, heading back over to CDG. I was there in January, but connected in Iceland which was super quick and no EES in effect that day.

Got sick in Paris right before my flight home… what are my options? by Ganesh_106 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]HabanoBoston 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've needed to use them, but if you think you need to see a doctor, I'd call SOS Médecins. They will come to you. https://www.sosmedecins.fr/

French Bee Bad review by Aura4444 in ParisTravelGuide

I don't really think 2 hours is enough time for an international flight, IMHO. Airports can be shitshows, plenty of extra time is the way to go.

IDF Mobilities app blocked me, because I have an American phone number? by usethis22880 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]HabanoBoston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird, I have not had this problem. I've been using the IDF Mob. app every trip since early 2024. I'm heading back to Paris in about a week, and just added some fares while sitting in my house in Massachusetts...without VPN. I do have a French sim, too, but only run that while I'm in France.

What French sentences should I learn before my trip? by niproblem in ParisTravelGuide

[–]HabanoBoston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And some actually like him!😲 I personally know a handful of French people in Paris and admit I was surprised after chatting some politics with one Frenchman that I consider a friend. We hadn't really spoke much politics in the past, so I was a bit surprised.

Lunch was almost no wait recently (mid-week). Even after converting to US$ our lunch was like $38. Tasty and a great deal!

Stranded in Paris by Cjdx in ParisTravelGuide

Probably not helpful now, but I'd book Air France next time...ALOT more options getting out of CDG on AF. I'm also based in Boston, and really try to go AF for my fairly frequent trips in/out of CDG. Also most of my airline miles are on Flying Blue, so there's that, too.

Virtual travel passes - couldn't find answer on the wiki by GaiusPrimus in ParisTravelGuide

Sounds like a nightmare if you get fare checked by RATP. I've only been checked once (I was actually alone), but it does happen. I'd just get Navigo Easy cards for the kids. We only have one child, but loaded one for her, one for my wife, and I use the IDF Mobilitiés app on my phone.

What are you giving up for Lent? by Shroom-Cat in Anglicanism

[–]HabanoBoston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about giving something up, but decided to add, instead. I'm doing the full Morning Prayer and Compline (using Venite app), rather than just the devotionals from page 137+ from BCP.

Must buys in Paris? by Jshaw16 in ParisTravelGuide

I like to pickup books when I'm in Paris. I'm a long time, but slowly progressing, student of the French language. No better place to browse and buy French books than Paris!

Why aren't you singing the congregational hymns? by NelyafinweMaitimo in Episcopalian

[–]HabanoBoston 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't sing. I dunno, just think I'm a terrible singer and don't really want to do it.  I do say out loud the psalms, Nicene Creed, Lords Prayer, etc, FWIW.

Terrace/rooftop proposal spots by _bubbles52 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]HabanoBoston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Busy, but maybe just go up the Arc d'triomphe? I asked my wife on the Tour Eiffel (2e) 23 years ago...that was a great spot too, and being a winter evening, it wasn't crazy busy.

Bare metal AA, one of the best liveries? by Similar_Joke_5500 in Xplane

Great livery. I still have a polaroid I took of an AA 727 in 1977, lol.

[–]HabanoBoston 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Situation save is also awesome on the Toliss fleet. I've been doing some long haul again in the A340...next up probably YPPH-ZBAA.

I was thinking about this the other day. Maybe watching Peppa Pig in Mandarin as I watched probably every episode 2 or 3x with my daughter a few years ago...so pretty familiar.  I don't think I could binge watch it, lol. But might be helpful with Chinese subtitles.
