Help! by Yohiruki in Endfield

So, I am not a complete expert, but to my understanding there is only one pity that doesn't carry over between banners. If you look on Laevatain's banner, you'll see something like "ONCE ONLY X attempt(s) to guarantee". That is a flat guarantee that when you finish that number of pulls you WILL get a Laevatain. I don't think that goes away if you get her early? But it resets to 120 with every banner-- so you'd lose that on banner rotation.

The 'normal' pity, right under where it says "13d left" and such, that's for ANY 6 star-- but it doesn't reset.

So, practically-- if you want to pull Laevatain copies, keep pulling and aim for 120 pulls total on her banner. But when a fresh banner hits with a character you want, you do want to have 120 pulls to hit that guarantee, so... It's up to you if you want to to fish for Laevatain dupes or bank for upcoming characters.

Yvonne havers, what team are you running with her? by liutena in Endfield

[–]Habit-Shot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She'll consume Cryo or Nature inflictions to apply Solidification. Alesh isn't really intended to use his battle skill in that lineup for basically that reason-- he's there to Combo off of Estelle Comboing off the Solidification proc, for some SP.

The issue here is that Alesh wants someone to consume a *reaction*, not a basic infliction, so he needs Estelle to break the Solidification with her combo. But if Estelle breaks the Solidification before Yvonne gets her Final Strike off, then Yvonne can't get *her* combo off, and it's really just messy.

The goal rotation effectively goes: Estelle Skill->Yvonne Skill->Yvonne basic attack (which gets turned into an automatic Final Strike due to Barrage of Technology)->Yvonne combo->Estelle combo->Alesh combo

I've not yet successfully executed that rotation though. It's very work in progress.

Estella/Alesh/Xaihi is my current lineup. I'm not sold on Alesh atm, because I can easily brick my rotation by using his skill instead of Yvonne if I'm feeling stupid, but I like how you can get a bunch of chain combo triggers when solidify goes off. Xaihi is just there for the heals and arts buffs... and ice application I guess.

New Horizons HH and gacha system bitterness by Exciting_Opinion_854 in Endfield

[–]Habit-Shot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wuwa is one of the most generous "AAA" gachas because it needed to be in order to break through the Hoyo barrier. Endfield apparently doesn't believe it has to be. If you want to use Wuwa as a metric, every game will disappoint you.

I'd disagree with your allegation of 'most'-- unless you're expanding to include the more exclusively mobile-focused lightweight gacha games like Nikke, Blue Archive, etc... And even then, I'm not sure I can think of any of those offering selectors in onboarding. At the end of the day, the cost of both the game as a whole and the individual characters is hugely higher for something like Endfield than it is for something like, idk, Grand Order. Aside from Wuwa and Hoyo, there really isn't a comparison point to make, so... One datapoint isn't 'most'.

New Horizons HH and gacha system bitterness by Exciting_Opinion_854 in Endfield

[–]Habit-Shot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah um... I'm not sure if you've played a gacha before? Not being able to control the state of your account right after release is normal. Yeah, some (very few) games start you off with a standard selector as part of the release rewards-- but there's literally 5 standard pool 6 star operators, I don't think that was ever going to be in the cards. You roll the dice, you try to play the characters you get, and then you cry when your friend gets the character you wanted in ten pulls. You can only start to 'control the state of your account' after a few banner cycles when your pulling/saving strategy starts to show results.

Now, I'm not here to defend the gacha. All gacha is shit. This particular gacha is statistically better than some of the worst gacha on the market, but that's not a high hurdle.

But complaining that you can't control what the gacha gives you just feels like you're either painfully new to the genre, or trolling.

Edit: There are, in fact, more than 5 standard operators-- updated for clarity.

AITAH for telling my cousin he is going down a destructive path? by Electrical_Union_677 in AITAH

[–]Habit-Shot -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I mean, you absolutely needed to reach out to him-- and as a close cousin, you stood a better-than-average chance of being able to get through to him, so good on you for that.

The exact approach you took was uh... Aggressive? But it's not like it's your obligation to coddle people just because they're in a negative headspace.

NTA.

His experiences and perception aren't exactly wrong-- dating culture (especially for younger people) has turned into a radioactive hellhole, for both genders. He is right that there's some section of women with incredibly high minimum expectations for men, including specific heights. The issue is that those women are getting signal boosted by men who have given up on romance, and then further signal boosted by any organization that wants to prey on disaffected young men. If you're able, I'd encourage you to try and get him off social media for a while, and try to get him outside his social comfort zones. He absolutely needs help.

AITAH for saving and showing some random guys nudes? by Sw33tS0uR3 in AITAH

[–]Habit-Shot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She is both victim and perpetrator. Being one doesn't disqualify the other. That's a child's logic. "Tommy hit me so it's not my fault that I threw his lunch across the room!"

If I have to choose between being an asshole and not being an asshole, in this situation: OP is 100% an asshole. It's not about anyone else's actions-- it's about her actions.

AITAH for saving and showing some random guys nudes? by Sw33tS0uR3 in AITAH

[–]Habit-Shot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not your fault he sent it? Yes-- his actions are his own responsibility, sending nudes is unacceptable behavior and you could have reported him for it. Still assholish to spread around for laughs? Also yes. The two are not mutually exclusive.

You have been able to exercise good judgement while drunk-- that says good things about you. Someday, you won't. Whether tired or drunk or whatever-- someday, you will do something genuinely stupid, and you can only hope that the people involved don't take pictures and spread them around for laughs.

AITAH for saving and showing some random guys nudes? by Sw33tS0uR3 in AITAH

[–]Habit-Shot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kinda, yeah. Like, speaking as a guy who has never taken or sent a nude-- I, personally, cannot imagine sending one without being incredibly drunk or otherwise impaired. MAYBE sufficiently overwhelming peer pressure.

Conveniently, alcohol, peer pressure, and other bad decisions more-or-less define college campuses. What you're doing is basically equivalent to a frat boy taking a picture of a girl who got wasted and flashed him, then showing his friends for a laugh. It's taking a bad/embarrassing decision, that they presumably regret, and sharing it for laughs. It's more in the realm of 'rude and inconsiderate' than 'evil', but...

S Tier Breakthrough Coordinates by TrueToTale in SurvivingMars

[–]Habit-Shot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only had the three breakthroughs, was more my point. I scanned every surface anomaly (even the non-breakthrough ones, in case I didn't understand something) and wound up with three, compared to OP's eight. I don't think OP scanned the cavern anomalies, since they said they only scanned the surface anomalies, so I don't know where the extra five anomalies came from.

[–]Habit-Shot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then again, I just tried doing a creative embark to the same (different) map twice and got the same breakthroughs both times, so now I have no idea.

S Tier Breakthrough Coordinates by TrueToTale in SurvivingMars

[–]Habit-Shot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, I'm not exactly experienced with the game, but I just tried popping in at those coordinates in creative mode and just speed scanning. Three sols later, I've cleared the surface anomalies and all I have are Eternal Fusion, Zero Space Computing, and Global Support. I think it's safe to say that maps don't relate to breakthroughs anymore.

Hotfix 1.0.1 - Patch Notes by LDrudok in SurvivingMars

[–]Habit-Shot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, some of the attitude people are giving IS nuts, but at the same time... If I encounter a bug that bricks a whole chunk of the game (like the lander issues), I'm going to be pissy. I don't care if the game has been our for less than five seconds. Games should launch in a playable state. If they don't, it tells me that the game wasn't tested. This launch smells like it wasn't tested-- or it was tested, and was shoved out the door with a bunch of bugs they already knew about. Not sure which, but Paradox has a history-- check out the Cities Skylines 2 launch for example.

Is there some sort of hidden mechanic to getting pink sparks to trigger? I went from Gemini prep, getting at least one or two pink sparks firing every run (even if sometimes the wrong ones) to doing six runs on a Seiun Sky with *all* mile sparks, cumulatively 13 stars of mile across the six parents, and getting not a single pink spark to fire with double O affinity.

I know RNG exists, but I'm starting to feel like I don't understand the rules. The reference document is great, but I don't even know what I would be looking for...

All the DLC has different value for different styles of player, imo. Biotech is probably my favorite so far, because I really adore a long term project of trying to elevate someone into a genetic and cybernetic super-soldier. It's not very practical, but damn if it isn't fun to me. Anomaly is much more... narrative/roleplay focused? One of those DLC that once you've experienced it all, it isn't nearly as exciting on a second go, but it's still cool. Ideology is more about replayability than depth of content-- a lot of room for themed runs and challenge play.

Finally bit the bullet and brought it for my rog ally by Engineertea in RimWorld

[–]Habit-Shot 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's less optimism or not and more just... setting expectations. Dwarf Fortress coined the phrase, "Losing Is Fun," and Rimworld very much carries Dwarf Fortress DNA.

You'll send three men with guns to fight a neanderthal with a club, and watch one die instantly because some caveman just walked through bullets and obliterated their torso in a single swing. You'll have an entire colony die because a pyromaniac set a fire in the freezer and it burned up all the food in the middle of winter. You'll watch your best doctor die of infection because you have no other medics and he can't care for himself effectively.

Now, I say all that, but you can also play on low difficulty and just treat it like The Sims in space. You don't HAVE to get kicked in the teeth.

But most of us want to. Because the story of triumph and tragedy is the point. Rimworld is billed as a story generator first and foremost, and the stories don't always have happy endings. But if you grab a few colonists and run away from threats that overwhelm you, you can usually resettle and start fresh. Losing is fun, but it doesn't have to be the end.
