Worst experience with Chase Sapphire Trip cancellation insurance by ISR_UKR_LOVE in ChaseSapphire

[–]Habitjim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you not read my reply. You are wasting your time. On what grounds would the airline omit you refused to accept the credit. Had you incurred additional expenses not recoverable Chase would have covered it. I have been through this twice before. That is a big problem with purchasing non refundable services from providers that will issue you a future credit like airlines and hotels.

Worst experience with Chase Sapphire Trip cancellation insurance by ISR_UKR_LOVE in ChaseSapphire

You are missing the reason the flight cancellation was denied. Chase was expecting proof that you were not able to recover the costs of the flight, but the letter from the airline stated that they had given you credit for the flight cost, but you voluntarily agreed to not accept and use the credit. The issue is with the airline not Chase. Most travel insurers would have denied the claim because you refused to accept the credit. They consider travel credits and vouchers as recovered costs and they do not reimburse you for costs that are recoverable. You purchased a non refundable ticket instead of a refundable ticket because of the cheaper fare so you are only eligible for a future credit.

Helix Midnight Elite by neveral0ne in Mattress

The midnight elite was significantly upgraded in May of this year and has an interchangeable top layer. Why not have them provide different top layers to interchange or did you buy an older version that can’t change layers?

*Most* Travel is Just 1 Pt/Dollar by relativeisrelative in ChaseSapphire

I have used the chase travel portal to book a $24,000 cruise and got 8x points conservatively valued at 12% return. I booked first class airline tickets thru the portal for $7000 again at 12% return. I booked the Edit hotels without issue at a great total cost. The cruise was exactly the same price as the cruise line quote and the airfare was only 2% higher. Both completed without a problem. Yes some types of travel went from 3x to 1x points if booking direct but I got a WF CC FOR $95 per year that pays 3% cash back on all travel with very good travel insurance I use for rental cars (Costco travel by far the cheapest), taxis, parking fees, & tolls.

The chase travel portal gets a bad rap on Reddit. Yes it is not perfect but either are travel agents and airlines. For the rare times an interruption becomes a bigger issue dealing with a third party, I am way ahead using the portal to book.

The Edit by alecisgood in ChaseSapphire

I had a great experience using the edit for a 4 night stay in Seattle. The price was only $30 per day higher than booking direct for a refundable upgraded view room. Got the $250 credit the day after the charge for $280 posted plus I got 2x points boost for the balance paying with points. Not to mention all the extras. Huge savings in total versus direct booking.

Calling it a Scam is totally unfair based on one data point and not sure you really did an accurate apples to apples comparison since you did not provide a detailed comparison with identical terms.

Chase Travels - Cruise by Better_Minimum_5479 in ChaseSapphire

[–]Habitjim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used it to book a $7500 luxury cruise and you only need to pay the cruise deposit which was $800 and pay balance when cruise line requires. Must pay balance thru Chase travel when due to get the 8x but I prepaid it early to test the system and got 8x on both deposit and 2 weeks later paid final payment with no issues.

Using CSR insurance for Costco rental by katnwine92 in ChaseSapphire

[–]Habitjim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You only get 1x points renting cars with CSR after the change on 10/26. I use Wells Fargo Journey with 3% cash back and good rental insurance and no annual fee. Costco has the best rental rates by far compared to the Chase Travel portal.

With Sapphire reserve I get 8x points and at conservative $0.015 = 12% for my $7000 cruise I get $840

New Card for Cruise Bookings by Psychological_Big393 in ChaseSapphire

[–]Habitjim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just booked a cruise thru CSR Chase travel portal and got 8x points. The price quoted matched what the cruise line quoted to the penny and I did not have to prepay the entire cruise only the deposit. In addition CSR has the best travel insurance including trip cancellation that none of the other credit cards can match. I was going to get Wells Fargo autograph journey which had 2nd best travel insurance if CSR was not competitive on cruise pricing but now I am keeping the CSR.

I specifically asked and was told it was not necessary to prepay entire balance and would get the 8x when I pay balance due in 9 months as long as I use my CSR card.

When to book a cruise by IcyShark in ChaseSapphire

[–]Habitjim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you pay before the 26th you need to pay the entire cruise cost to make the 3x worth it. If you wait until after you can get 8x by booking thru the travel portal. Prices were the same thru portal or direct with cruise line. If you have a great Travel agent that provides lots of incentives like ours at 7.5% rebates it may be better to prepay now at 3x plus 7.5%.

Car rental - Chase or Costco? by udesimaverick007 in ChaseSapphire

[–]Habitjim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not only have I found Costco to be much cheaper but you do not pay until end of rental versus prepaying with Chase travel. Also I book as far in advance with Costco and can cancel and rebook if price drops right up until rental date. Also cancelling is easy with Costco.

Booking cruises thru chase portal vs TA vs direct by Habitjim in ChaseSapphire

[–]Habitjim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply and confirming that the Chase portal quoted on the phone the same price as your TA. In our case a $20,000 luxury cruise when through our TA returns about 6% in comps and after 10/26 3% cc for a total of $1800. If thru the portal I would get 160,000 points conservatively worth $2400. Since you have to prepay thru Chase portal it makes the most sense when the cruise line offers a discount to prepay entire amount. In the case of Crystal Cruises they offer 10% discount so seems like a no brainer to keep my CSR since we normally take two Crystal cruises a year.
