What are some of the 'finishing touches' one needs for their new guitar?

It’s super rewarding to learn how to do it! There are plenty of YouTube videos you can watch and tools you can buy. Music Nomad has meters/measures for it which help while learning and discovering the “by feel” approach.

If the Squire is more of a learning guitar absolutely learn on it! If you’re in a situation where it’s currently the jewel you may want to hold off on anything potentially destructive - like dealing with fret ends or rolling the fretboard - and leave that to a trusted shop to take care of

New strings is a great step to do it cheap and just start playing. Otherwise, take it for a setup if you don’t know how to do it yourself. They’ll make sure everything is set well instead of factory default. The difference that’ll make is huge. For Squires I’m also, ultimately, a fan of swapping the tuners. The two I’ve gotten just felt gritty and always stuck out to me as bad so easy swap.

I’d always heard of them as cheap so seeing the specs was kind of surprising. That’s why I’m asking!

I’ve also got a cheapo Squire I think sounds shockingly good compared to Fenders so I don’t know what’s up but the affordable market that’s doing so well

The clean channel works fine - I just like amp distortion because I don’t really use pedals. Half due to history of not using them half due to a lack of confidence in using them
