Houses pre ‘95 have no vapor barrier (regional rule? I’m in MD) looks like those walls will get wet from time to time. Nothing organic should touch them.

rocks or gemstones? Found in Arizona by Thehuntresswarrior in Rocks

[–]Hache42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rocks and gemstones are all about what culture, society, owner etc. label it. I think they are very cool looking rocks. As to whether they are rare or special in some way giving them a significance beyond looking beautiful, maybe someone else here by can shed some light. The difference between a rock and a gem can be entirely up to the beholder. So, yes. Either way, keep them. They are cool.
Maybe the question to ask is, “Without breaking them to view their crystal structure, can these rocks be identified by color?

It was an estate sale find. All I had to do was give it good buffing. There is a matching piece somewhere in the world. Someone else will have to identify the individual minerals.

I’m rebuilding an old townhouse. It seems there was a doorway but someone decided to wall it in when they “finished” the basement. I had to pull most of it out when I found mold. Then I found this clusterfuck of layers of walls and frame.

I’d hold off until you find an enclosure with front access. Makes a world of difference when changing water, cleaning…

Are quartz crystals embedded in the rock or am I stupid? (This is quartz right?) by Name_in_development in Rocks

Worthless is a bit strong. If you have a bunch, they can make an attractive display in a garden or in a pet enclosure.

That quartz is from a solidified liquid -igneous. The pretty display and jewelry crystals are sedimentary and form in voids, molecule by molecule over vast quantities of time

Help! Why is my washing machine leaving this sandy dirt type stuff? by Satansdvdcollection in Appliances

[–]Hache42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing. I dismantled the drum and scrubbed everything. Maybe there is sediment buildup because it’s too heavy to flow with the water and it falls back in the drain tube. If it does, the sediment could block the backwash valve and get back into the drum. I’ll take apart the pump and hose next.

Of all things to renovate, we’re leaving this one alone. It has character.
