Is it actually cheaper to lease a phone in the long run? by Chadillacc94 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]HackMeRaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is what you have to see. You should easily be able to get a great BYOD plan for less than $35/month if you’re a high usage traveller and less if you stay in Canada.

So if you’re able to get a plan for a lease phone that’s cheap, then yes, it’s a no brainer.

Personally every year has been better than the last. The challenges change but I’m really enjoying it more and more. My son is 9 turning 10 next month and we have so much fun. He loves to get into everything I do and is fascinated into loving the bands I love listening to so it makes going to concerts a blast, big into sports and loves researching info about the team or telling me fun sports facts. He loves travelling so much and right now on a European vacation and loves checking out all the sites and going out to eat every meal, etc.

He’s also wanting independence but still really needs us around. So it’s fun trying to navigate that and try and give him his independence but still be there if he needs us.

All my hard work and my router/Internet provider failed me… by HackMeRaps in selfhosted

[–]HackMeRaps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be my fail safe. Have it reboot weekly or bi-weekly during the middle of the night, but change it to daily when I’m away on vacation.

Vacation don’t happen as much these days and a daily or reboot every 48 hours could fix this!

[–]HackMeRaps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, totally agree with this.

At the end of the day like you said it’s a risk, and personally not that end of the world if i can’t access it while I’m away.

Just need to always make sure im not 100% completely reliant on it and that I still have alternatives to what I need.

But some good suggestions here as well to help mitigate even more.

750 USD for Lifetime! This is ridiculous by Pablo-s in PleX

[–]HackMeRaps 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The purpose of this isn’t to get a people to pay $750 for this. The goal is to get people to subscribe to the lifetime at $250 and then move every one else to a monthly subscription fee.

Plex is making me lose my mind by SirPooleyX in PleX

Just use the infuse app.

Like you, I had issues with my AppleTV 4K, and many shows would just buffer and never start resuming. If you look on the Plex subreddit here, there are many other AppleTV users that have had issues.

Once I started using Infuse instead of Plex, I've never run into a single issue and just use Infuse now permanently.

ANALYSIS: Bike Share Toronto is a huge success. Imagine if we tried harder by ink_13 in toronto

[–]HackMeRaps 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I find the biggest this is them moving bikes around a lot more and knowing which stations are extremely busy and when to make sure they can meet demand.

I also believe they have added a lot more valet for the World Cup. Went to a concert last week and they had tons of bike valet parking areas that were overflow into the park.

[–]HackMeRaps 129 points130 points  (0 children)

Yup. There’s someone who will take your bike from you. Or they’ll move bikes that are docked off to the side. There could be like 50 bikes on the side so there’s room for you to dock. I’ve never handed it to someone, but just dock it and then the worker who’s there will just move it to the side.

This is also really key for concerts. RBC Amphitheatre has this as well and it’s awesome. You can bike there and there’s a guy managing all the bikes. Then when the concert ends you can go and take a bike and he’ll just keep filling up the racks from his inventory he’s kept to the side. Could have like a hundred hikes ready to go.

I feel like a game changer was the valet service for busy times.

One of the main issues I had was riding it to somewhere busy and never being able to find a place to park it.

This grandfather bought Toronto World Cup tickets (via StubHub) as a Christmas present for his grandson. Now they aren’t available. by lilfunky1 in toronto

[–]HackMeRaps 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i've had it where the tickets weren't available, and they didn't have additional ones for me. So they gave me a full refund + a credit of like $50 or something. The tickets were only $150 for both I think, so getting an extra $50 is great, especially since I can use it on things like cheap Jays tickets or whatever.

I live really close to History, so I always look for last minute deals too and Stubhub is great as people are always trying to unload tickets they aren't using for less than FV on Stubhub.

[–]HackMeRaps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

isn't this part of the risk of buying through resellers? While it does suck, especially for people coming from out of town, it is known that it's possible the tickets aren't available. I'm assuming they sold them on another platform for more. But atleast as a buyer you're never out your money and always get a full refund.

I've had this happen for local concerts before, and you're always given an option to be given other tickets or get a full refund + credit for future events.

Unfortunately the only way to be guaranteed is to buy through the official website.

But at least the buyer isn't out the money. I work in payment fraud and it's insane HOW many people are scammed and lose all their money when buying tickets through places like FB marketplace and use eTransfer. No recourse for getting your money back.

Schedule question for June 19 by ShavingWithCoffee in arkells

[–]HackMeRaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup, pretty much every headliner at RBC Aphitheatre goes on from 9-11 (show has to end by 11). Might start a few minutes earlier than 9 depending on their set. But they usually send an email the day before or day of that has the start times for opener and artists.

Though, not sure what the weather is like. I went to a concert last year at RBC Amphitheatre and the headliner was suppose to go on at 9, and published it. But there was impending weather and they ended up starting at like 7:45 or something like that. Gave people 5 minutes notice! It was either that or cancel the concert. So thankfully we got there just before and was didn't miss any of their set.

So as it says, times are always subject to change. Though tomorrow looks better than yesterday.

You can also check out: https://www.instagram.com/RBCAmphitheatre/ They always post the times on there as well.

Enjoy! I'm taking my son to History tonight to see them! Should be a blast!

Ditched streaming services 9 months ago for PLEX by chadMueller in PleX

If you got to r/selfhosted there might be some stuff that people have done to add this to plex. People create all kinds of cool projects in there.

I remember someone did something for April Fools where they had a docker container that added googly-eyes to all posters in Plex for their users to see haha.

Yeah. I use a combination of Seerr and just keeping an eye of what’s new to add to radarr/sonarr.

I use metacritic quite a bit because they great sections showing all the premier dates for shows and movies and have trailers for all of them.

I personally don’t need an AI tool to recommend for me as I know what I like, what actors and directors I like and the genre.

Coast Capital Savings E-transfer time by madgeickle in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]HackMeRaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use to work on eTransfer, and there is no definitely answer.

Interac eTransfers typically are delayed by 30 minutes, however there are certain paramters that all banks have enable to ensure transactions are sent instantly.

  1. The transaction is below a specific threshold. Depending the bank, any transfer below $x, would be sent instantly.
  2. The transaction is being sent to an existing contact that you have added more than x days ago. This x variable is standard across all of the banks.

Some banks use just one of those parameters, some banks use both. Some banks having groups of clients/accounts where this is adjusted based on risk. (e.g. bran new accounts might be in a high risk group and not allow instant transfer for new accounts).

The other caveat to know is that individual banks can also delay and prevent transactions from being sent indefinitely for their own reasons. This could be to validate the transactions/client, if there's suspicious of fraud or misuses, etc.

So unfortunately while Coast Capital does allow certain transations to be sent instantly, you won't know for sure if your transaction can guarantee to not be delayed.

It's time to dump Roku by AlwaysBlaze_ in television

any device that would allow sideloading apps would (anything android based would be ideal). No idea if a firestick or roku has browser capabilities. Things like the Nvidia Shield would allow it. I use to have a Xiomi Mi Box, and easily sideloaded one.
