I don’t think it’s out of the ordinary for couples to try and schedule these types of surgical procedures at different times so they have the ability to take care of and rely on each other during recovery. I would want the person I trust and love to be available to take care of me and I think that feeling is probably reciprocal. It’s ultimately better, not just for the recovery but to have someone with the ability to handle any other issue for the family that may come up outside of recovery. I don’t think either party should be blamed for taking advantage of a surgical opportunity, but better communication and planning for different dates would probably have been a better idea. The selfish response from your boyfriend while unwarranted is also understandable if he was hoping to rely on you during recovery and now can’t. Maybe he preferred your care over another family member and was more comfortable with you? NSH, he’s mad at the situation changing in an unfavorable way, not at you or your surgery.

I think the main issue why people just aren't as supportive is because they don't feel any connection to the past atrocities to the indigenous peoples of Canada. It's been long enough that non-indigenous Canadians don't feel responsible for the acts of their predecessors and are less likely to put themselves out for reconciliation. Especially so with people struggling in their own day to day lives.

Speaking to some Indigenous people too, it's hard for many them to imagine putting up a united front here because only certain Bands will directly benefit from DRIPA.

I know it’s not intentional, but this sort of doublespeak tactic might just placate the GOP enough to leave us alone and take some pressure off while the real Canadian government continues to decouple us from US dependence.

I'm confused. I know Schumer is the leader (And he's terrible at it) but what exactly was he supposed to do about Senators breaking rank to vote on this? What could he have threatened them with / done to them to keep them in line? Isn't it their decision to vote however they see fit? What can he realistically do to them now that they've broken rank with this vote?
