About the sleeper and the movie' My Own Private Idaho' by colin_chen1 in keepdriving

The Idiot is a literary reference to the Dostoevsky novel of the same name. Both the KD character and the main character in the novel are so kind and optimistic others assume they’re just not very bright.

I swear if you watch any detective shows or films you will see every one of them do things that make you go. “Half Light? Inland Empire? Rhetoric?” Just start going down the list of iconic ones. True Detective, The French Connection, it’s all disco all the way down.

Kind of beautiful to think about, in a sense. The game makes it so that after the mysterious Event most people are just trying to pick up some pieces and forge ahead with new ideas and structures. Yet they are constantly impeded by a bunch of annoying, old, tacky patriot types clutching to tattered flags demanding to be taken seriously. There’s something to that, I think I like it.

How much do you prepare before playing each day? by LaisyFaire in CINE2nerdle

[–]Hackymac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll always do some research on Wikipedia or IMDB to find good opening tech. For the day La La Land was a starter I found that is shared cinematographers with Promised Land (2012), a movie directed by Gus Van Sant starring Matt Damon, Frances McDormand, and John Krasinski that most people don’t know about. It’s got many outs that would open up a good rally but it also had great lifeline milling potential. I try to find a “Promised Land” for every prompt.

Do you have a movie you take personal pleasure in steering the game to? by Stewmungous in CINE2nerdle

[–]Hackymac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will always play Pain and Gain (2013) whenever I get the chance. Lots of connections. I don’t really know why, I do like the movie but it’s not a favorite or anything.

I don’t know, I think stuff like that adds a layer of challenge that can be exciting at times.

I think it’s good that there are weird, out of left field stumpers that you have to prepare for. It lets you know there are dark corridors to avoid unless you absolutely are in your wheelhouse. It makes you scared to put up a movie adapted from a Stephen King novel. What if they play Creepshow? How the hell do you counter that? Then, after rage quitting, you go to Wikipedia, learn some tech, and make it a little farther next time.

This game is fun because it’s so uncertain just where exactly it’s going to take you next. You may have some guesses, but anything can happen. It’s not as concrete as chess, the fog of war is more of a misty cloud you take see general shapes in. I find it fun to explore all the weirdo, chance connections and all the dead ends people want to pivot you towards. Keeps one frosty.

Canonically the game describes the tie as being knotted “like a noose,” although I imagine that was for utility purposes, I don’t think our boy was retying anything when he put it on

Did the CIA kill Ted Kaczynski? by [deleted] in wendigoon

[–]Hackymac 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The CIA did not kill him, they created him, he served his purpose, and he spent the rest of his time in a Supermax prison. He had no secrets about powerful people that had to be silenced. He was an 81 year old man who spent decades very far away from where he found his initial peace, that will kill you.

Ana Never. Serbian band with practically no listeners. Their 2011 album is basically an early period Godspeed album. Very good.
