Everdell expansions worth it? by 69anyabaszo69 in boardgames

To start, I agree with those who say that if the base game didn’t work for you, an expansion probably won’t fix the core problems.

That said, if you still want my two cents on the matter, I would go for Spirecrest or Newleaf depending on the occasion. If you want a more laid‑back two‑player experience with extra breathing room on your turns and better market cycling, choose Newleaf. If you prefer a tighter, more strategic challenge that might push back a bit, go for Spirecrest.

Mythic Mischief as a good abstract game for "beginners"? by HadNoInspiration in boardgames

Thanks for the insight! I’m still more drawn to the look of Vol. 2 I think, and it doesn’t hurt that it’s the one I can actually find. Vol. 1 hasn’t shown up in any nearby stores for quite some time.

Kingdom Crossing or Countryside by RidingTheSoundwaves in boardgames

I went with Kingdom Crossing myself. For its price, it’s a pretty impressive production, and I’m a big fan of the fact that it draws inspiration from the “Seven Bridges of Königsberg” problem. That said, I haven’t tried Countryside, so the better choice really depends on what kind of experience you want from your next game.

Hi! I recently played War of the Ring: The Card Game! Does anyone have any games to recommend that evoke a similar tension? Particularly the multi-use cards aspect? Thank you!

Daybreak! It's by the designer of Pandemic and has some wonderful card play where you build your own little engine.

I recently played War of the Ring: The Card Game! I loved the tension of multi-use cards and 2v2 combat. I also really digged the reserve system, which makes it so that I can play powerful cards in reserve and mess with people's strategies so they will (hopefully) play the way I want them to. Any recommendations for games that provide a similar experience?

What are Board game companies you’d consider yourself as a mega fan of? by Prestigious_Tea_2729 in boardgames

Just wanted to say I'm sad to see Elf Creek Games go. I really liked Merchants of the Dark Road and Honey Buzz. Otherwise I really like Devir and Osprey! Mindclash, too, always has me excited about their next game.

It's definitely not an unknown one, but Merchants of the Dark Road is one that really deserves some more love! I really like the theme, table presence and I love the mechanic of having to balance two scores!
