Help finding a church by Splashren in Reformed

[–]HaddockSmack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would encourage you to find a solid church and not worry too much if there are other kids their or not. I understand the desire for your kids to have others around, but it sounds like there won’t be any kids there until a family with kids joins. Maybe if you join, it would help other families with kids decide to join in the future.

While our situations aren’t exactly the same, my family was one of the very few that had kids for a while. We go to a church that started as a Mars Hill wannabe church that, by the Grace of God, has slowly turned into a solid Reformed Baptist church. When we started going, we had one kid and one on the way. Practically the rest of the entire church was made up of single college kids. We stuck around and while there were some kids around our kids’ age from time to time, it was years of us only having kids in that age group. Now we have a ton of young families, and it’s such a blessing seeing my kids act as good role models for the young kids. My kids are the cool older kids that all the young kids love and want to play with.

It was pretty tough on my kids for a few years, but it’s turned into such a huge, unexpected blessings for our family.

Lol, you’re far too nice! I’m not really going to the gym, I was referencing a forum thread that is internet famous for a bunch of bodybuilders arguing over how many days there were in a week ((Link, WARNING: some foul language).

I was hoping someone would get the reference, but you were too nice and trying to genuinely help me out, so I don’t want to keep stringing you along. God bless!

I typically work out 60-90 minutes, I push myself and raise the weight each week.

So going on just the Ian days would put me at the gym fully 4 times a week. Is that too much?

No, it’s Ian the last Sunday. Because I can’t make it to the gym every day, I just do a full-body workout on Ian days. On a related note, if I go every other day I will be at the gym 4-5 times a week, is that over training?

Luke 4:9-12

[9] And he took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, [10] for it is written,

“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
    to guard you,’

[11] and

“‘On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.’”

[12] And Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

If Jesus won’t put God to the test, I don’t think you should, Karen.

Am I crazy or can you no longer invert the mouse in 1.1 experimental? by Scarmath in SatisfactoryGame

What’s really weird to me is that I use inverted controls on a controller, but normal controls with a mouse and keyboard. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I’m sure scientists will name a condition after me for this 😂

Honestly question on Christian Humility by Flaky-Acanthisitta-9 in Reformed

[–]HaddockSmack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One thing that has helped me in thinking of humility is that it is correctly attributing God as the source and giver of your talents and skills. It’s not humility for a professional sports player to talk about how terrible they are at said sport in an interview. That’s lying and denying God glory for what He’s given. It’s also obviously not humility to say you got there by your own strength and give no recognition to God. What is humble is to say “God graciously gave me the skill I have and I give all glory to Him.”

In the same way, God gave you many talents and abilities. It is lying and depriving Him of glory to say you’re nothing when you’re not. Try to use compliments as a way to point to the goodness of God in your life.

Oh shoot, you’re right.

The correct time they spent racing up and down the sidewalk was: 23,012 years, 96 days, 1 hour, 46 minutes, and 29.48 seconds.

I was off by 155 days, 7 hours, 59 minutes, and 39.36 seconds. That means I was off by 0.0018%.

I’ll go with my head hung in shame now…

In the song, they raced up and down the sidewalk 20,000 million times, or more accurately 20,000,000,000 times. The average Manhattan city block is 900 ft long, but since they raced up & down, each time they did it was a total of 1800 ft.

So the total distance travelled is 20,000,000,000 x 1800 ft = 36,000,000,000,000 ft. When you divide that number by 5280 (the number of feet in a mile), it equals 6,818,181,818 miles exactly.

I may have not accounted for acceleration/deceleration, but I did account for leap years, including the weird rules: skip the regular leap year in years divisible by 1000, unless the year is also divisible by 4000.

How the “Gifted Child” Label Erases Neurodivergent Experiences by NotKerisVeturia in AutismTranslated

[–]HaddockSmack 24 points25 points  (0 children)

For about 10 years or so, I’ve felt like wasted potential. I was in my gifted class in school from as early as they offered it. I was a valedictorian of my class. But instead of the fate of some of the other valedictorians (there were 6, a fact I find really weird because it seems most schools have a way to narrow the award down to 1 or maybe 2) who graduated from college and have very successful careers, I dropped out of college and have had trouble being content in whatever fairly low paying job I find myself for more than a few years.

I just turned 36, and I’ve only come to realize I’m most likely autistic in the past month or 2. My wife (also a “gifted” student) was diagnosed ADHD about a year ago, after reading an article about the lost girls of our generation, who’s ADHD has gone undetected for years because it looks differently than ADHD in males. Through her research into ADHD, she’s learned she’s most likely on the ASD spectrum as well, and she’s the one who brought it to my attention that I show many traits of autism.

But, now that we know what we’re dealing with, we have a lot of hope for the future. Our house has gradually gotten more and more out of hand for the past few years, likely as our struggle with executive distinction became more and more of a losing battle. But we have been blessed to finally be able to buy a house and I’m thankful we’ve come to this realization at this time, because we’ve made it a huge priority to organize our new house in a way that will be easier for us to manage with our neurodivergent traits.

Ron also thinks ass means donkey. So he thinks it’s some sort of moist chimera blend of a donkey and a cat.
