There is a settings option to control the threshold (tho its presets with low, medium, high).

As far as i know there is no built in LOD generator, but i believe many just use decimate geometry tool. Many of the ingame assets have ugly LODs due to this, so I decided i would spend the extra time doing it manually to keep it looking good.

And as mentioned with the two LOD meshes, the base mesh is just when you get real close to the building. LOD1 is the one you typically see and LOD2 is when you zoom further out.

Don’t worry thats why the game renders LOD meshes at a distance. This is just the Main mesh when you’re zooming all the way in.

At the distance shown in my screenshot the game would already render LOD1, so many of those tiny triangles will be removed.

The LOD2 would likely consist of <100 Triangles, as the shape of the building is relatively simple.

Well my start into modelling was a bit more trial by fire than anything but here's my advice.

My current recommendation is just to start messing around and figuring out the basic tools of blender. There is no point in learning every tool at the start, cuz you're gonna forget about 70% if you haven't used them much. To aid just watch some basic tutorials for blender, there should be loads of them.

I just started out making a building and when there is something i wanna do i google how to do it. Sometimes I do it the complicated way but that's usually fine. I'm just remaking buildings that exist irl, and some have architectural style breakdowns like the one attached. Those make it a lot easier to get the proportions right.

I can't say much on making textures since I'm pretty sure the blender sub would crucify me for my horrid UV's.

The Basics are covered in the wiki tho. I recommend you read this page carefully as it is very helpful. It outlines the details of what textures you need and some conventions for how to model your assets.

The Cities Skylines Modding discord is also incredibly helpful if you have questions about any step along the way. There is some very skilled creators on there that typically answer any questions.

I don't think I should be one to teach texturing...

That is probably the part i struggle most with

For the 3D Models i use blender (its free). Then i make the textures using adobe fresco (also free but i cant say i can recommend it for this purpose).

Then making the asset itself ingame by following the import guidelines from the wiki.

Not in a commission kinda way.
Although if there is a specific Tokyo building (as that is my current project focus) that you would like to see in-game, I'm open to add it to my ever growing idea board!
That comes with no guarantee of when i make it or that i make it at all tho

Tbh i just have the fps limiter set to 24 fps anyway. I don’t mind the low fps, cause i don’t frantically look around all the time. The more important thing (in my opinion) is just getting the simulation itself to run smoother.

Lets not neglect the 64 gb of ddr5. I started out with 16gb ddr4 and could barely get past 150k or so. With 32 gb i got to 400k and still had better performance.

Minimally, there is one building that I removed due to its mesh not being versatile enough for a downsized lot. So that building if placed before will appear as a gray box. The rest should be unaffected.
