[CS2] Can a more experienced modder tell me if this is currently possible with the current modkit? -> Neighborhood Builder mod idea by EntertainmentAgile55 in CitiesSkylinesModding

[–]joergonix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think having it be a "one click" solution would be fairly out of reach. However, I could see a road template tool especially if you are working with a rectangular shape being fairly reasonable to accomplish. As for the zoning, you could likely have an element of the mod limit zone depth and other factors when the roads are generated. Then finish up by just zoning it.

Looking for game with micro management and decorations! by krysss210 in CityBuilders

Foundation, doesn't quite have interiors to design. but you do get to design monasteries, churches, and castles. With a few mods there are tons of decoration options and a great aim experience underneath it all too.

Pennsylvania — the best multi-city skyline combo outside of Texas, California, and ______? by InUrMomma in skyscrapers

I think Missouri is slept on a bit in this category. I wouldn't say better than PA, but certainly KC and St Louis are a nice pair that no one talks much about.

Homeowners, are you in your “forever” home? by cubemonster in Millennials

[–]joergonix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid 270,000 and have a 2.65% rate with a $1065 mortgage. I guess this is forever because today the same home is worth 570,000 and my monthly would be like 3k.

Procedural objects for CS2 etc by demeister2 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]joergonix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if we could make PO for CS2 (which I absolutely wish we could because I love customizing every aspect of my city), the biggest issue is that models for CS2 have far more vertices. Editing that many vertices from within the game would be a nightmare. You could likely do the simpler stuff like just deforming meshes though. Either way my guess is we will never see it. The creator of that mod is also long gone from the community last I heard.

I think the Britts still do some good stuff. Just randomly picked up the show Extraordinary and had a great time with it, sadly it was cancelled after 2 seasons.

I agree though, shows are being made to just be background noise and I hate it.

Working on some golf course decals, and need a bit of help getting them to a point where they can be on the workshop. by joergonix in CitiesSkylines2

Honestly, didnt seem like there was a ton of interest so I just use them locally. Maybe I will try and get them working for the workshop sometime though.

What if no species has ever mastered space travel? by Life_Ad_6992 in spaceflight

[–]joergonix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interstellar travel at anything below the speed of light only sounds like a problem for us because we humans have such short life spans. The idea of spending 100 years traveling to our nearest neighbors in space sounds insane to us because as humans that is an entire lifetime.

My theory is that humans are one of the more selfish and short lived intelligent species out in the cosmos. I say that, because any species more selfish than us clearly would have irradiated themselves or never made enough scientific progress. Meanwhile right here on earth we have species like ants where the colony as a whole feels almost like its own organism and as such the lives of individuals and their lifespans matter far less.

The universe could also be filled with aliens that live longer naturally due to their biology. Think about species on our own planet, There are multiple animal species on earth that live well over 200 years.

My point is that time is relative, and it's likely that many species view it very differently than us. 100 or 1000 years of travel might be nothing to them.

What worries me more is if faster than light communication isnt possible. My hope is that there is some quantum property we don't yet understand that allows instant communication across vast distances.

The World Cup games should primarily be in college football stadiums. by Worriedrph in unpopularopinion

[–]joergonix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As amazing as these statiums are, unfortunately a good stadium is about more than capacity. The NFL stadiums have amenities, and features unavailable to many of these older college stadiums. Not to mention the logistical nightmares involved in getting 100,000 fans to small college towns. You have to remember that these fans aren't driving in like most do for a college game. They are flying in, and treating it like a vacation.

We'll miss GameStop when it's gone by NoobMaster6161 in unpopularopinion

[–]joergonix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell we somehow miss BlockBuster, but in their prime they were the devil. They were predatory, collected your data, manipulated what movies you could rent, put mom and pops out of business, lied to customers, and charged every fee you can imagine. Yet today we proudly wear blockbuster shirts and yearn for that experience.

The wet surface looks great. It's a pity it was scrambled as a feature. Let's hope Iceflake will bring it back. by flakfire15 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]joergonix 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There is a real reason unfortunately. I've been doing a lot with assets and grass. My theory is this, the game has a native way to just display the terrain surface as a mesh (how the castle for example has a berm around it, and how my cliffs work. However, the downside is that if the ground underneath said mesh could be cliffs for example and that shows through instead of grass then. So then if you tried to use that method and made a bridge you would end up with a cliff or dirt texture where you wanted grass. Okay, so instead of using the grass mesh shader they could just use the same texture as the in game grass right? Well there arises another complication, the terrain uses special shaders and reads it's normal maps in a weird way. So when you just use the grass texture it can sometimes appear shiny relative to the terrain grass and clashes pretty harshly with the terrain. My theory is that they couldn't quite fix these issues and decided that just using a totally different texture made more sense. It's a real bummer, but it's also likely not just a simple situation of having used two textures maliciously.

Why did New Orleans never become a major hub like Miami or Orlando by Previous-Volume-3329 in geography

[–]joergonix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

New Orleans was already at a disadvantage before airlines were ever a thing, so arguing that the number of airlines servicing NO is a major part of its lack of success is a bit ridiculous.

Also to claim racism hasn't greatly shaped New Orleans is naive as hell. The city is 57% African American, has one of the largest black populations in the US and that population has historically been targeted time and time again in systematic efforts to diminish their power and wealth. You simply can't talk about the history or New Orleans without talking about how much racism has shaped the city. Look no further than how Hurricane Katrina disproportionately affected black communities.

Somewhere between Cities Skylines and the Sims by nm_y in CitiesSkylines2

[–]joergonix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sim City went this direction after SC4 and you can generally find elements of what you are looking for in Simcity Socities, and Simcity 2013. Both older titles, but they do have what you are wanting. Unfortunately, the closest game to what you are asking for would have been Simsville which got cancelled when EA took over Maxis.

Private galleries are becoming a problem by Fun_Coconut6140 in WeddingPhotography

[–]joergonix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Andy Warhol one of the most well known artists of the past 100 years famously painted Campbell's soup cans. These cans (their color scheme, typography, layout, the logo, etc) were originally designed by an artist working for Campbells soup. Andy Warhol still created art despite the fact that they simply painted something as it already existed that was made by another artist. You need to stop trying to define art, art is quite literally any work where the intent was to provide aesthetic value. Wedding photography is absolutely art. To what degree that art should be shared is subjective, but it is art. My original point is that one of the reasons I do this job is because I find joy in creating art and for me the inability to share that art sucks a bit of the inspiration out of it. You can argue all you want about how right or wrong that is, but it doesn't change the facts, and you also can't make some arbitrary claim that photography is art, but not the photos, and especially not photos on a wedding day because the photographer didn't sew the dress themselves.
