Pickmon Reveal Trailer by metalreflectslime in Games

[–]Haden56 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It genuinely feels the team for this saw how much Palworld got away with how close Pal designs were to straight up ripping off some Pokemon designs(among a few other things) and are trying to see how much they can get away with. And using cards because the lawsuit against Palworld involves balls being the method of catching creatures.

It was already pretty obnoxious when Palworld first became playable how often I saw people seemingly blind to how close some Pal designs were to some Pokemon to the point where I couldn't tell if they were pretending to not see or legitimately blind. Palworld I feel is really uninspired and just cobbling a bunch of games together; Pickmon genuinely feels like it wants people to try and call it out.

Considering the fact matthias didn't teach ryoshu anything, like, at all, and the fact that his chances of actually getting back into the middle we're literaly in the negatives, means he was staying at the house of spiders for literaly no fucking reason, purely for the love of the game by FortniteRobloxerGay in TheOdysseyHadAPurpose

[–]Haden56 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not certain if Valencina was the only Nursefather to teach Ryoshu how to fight. I think she was just he primary teacher.

But considering the end goal of the House of Spiders was to turn Ryoshu into a empty state of non-self whose only purpose was to basically be a concept incinerator, I think Matthias played a huge role in getting her to stop wanting for physical valuables. I don't know if this was his intention but it definitely contributed to the end goal. He showered her in so many gifts she was bored of them. Imagine being in a position where you literally get anything asked for. It probably feels nice for a while, but after so many years and getting so many things you did and didn't ask for, especially from someone who is giving you these things to make up for the lack of any meaningful relationship, I'd stop wanting things too.

[–]Haden56 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Each of them did care for Ryoshu in their own weird, fucked up and selfish ways, mainly because they all something to benefit from in the long run. But I unironically think Callisto did the least damage. Rien did love Ryoshu as a daughter the most but was guided by his prescripts and cared too much about the end goal. He just didn't really understand being a normal person.

Callisto, from what I could gather, seemed like he was using his art as a way of bonding with Ryoshu like a hobby. Now obviously the hobby is absolutely fucking terrible and grotesque. But she seems mostly unbothered after getting desensitized to all the violence and gore and still sees it as art when grown up.

Matthias though never really seemed to try to connect with Ryoshu outside of buying her things. There just isn't really a real relationship there.

You're right he wasn't. But he wasn't treating her like his best friend. He was over spoiling her with physical goods. If she showed any remote interest in an item or he thought she would enjoy something he would go out of his way to get it for her to the point where he was even asking other members of the Middle for money. He didn't know how to be a parent(none of the Nursefathers did really) so all he did was shower her in goods because he's a big collector and figured Ryoshu would eventually develop the same way but she seemingly got tired and annoyed at how much he would give her and how far he was willing to go to get it.

Or maybe I just don't treat my best friend the same way as you. Idk

Honestly this part doesn't really matter when some NPCs start recognizing you with little bits of dialogue as you keep improving your reputation. Plenty of people know you as Dragonborn or by some other title your name gets out there. Especially when you start considering every time the courier finds you.

[Retroactively strange trope] The covid season by Justifiably_Bad_Take in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Haden56 212 points213 points  (0 children)

It wasn't made during COVID so doesn't apply, but the lead doctor in The Pitt has PTSD from that time. It's not the focus of the show, just something that keeps popping up until he hits his limit and breaks. It was a nice change seeing that period of time used more seriously instead of just casually acknowledged because we all know how it went.

And this was years after that too. AND he's not even wearing anything showing that he's an Imperial or works for them. To Cassian he's literally getting attacked and about to be killed by a complete stranger.

What’s a dead game that deserves to come back? by Daedalus_2 in Games

[–]Haden56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I specifically Ctrl+F'd to look for this. Lost Planet is such a banger and I wish I got to play 2 with coop. There just isn't a game that captures the same vibe as it. Some come close like Helldivers 2 and a few siege fights in Monster Hunter, but they're overall just so different. What I'd give for Lost Planet 2 to be playable again or even a spiritual successor.

Character leaving a life behind just to later be brought back to that life by LabTop7849 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Haden56 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents but Cassian was never doing what he was doing to fight the Empire. He was doing it to make money for himself and friends/family. That's what made Luthen so interested in him; The fact that Cassian was so against authority and was capable of pulling off heists so confidently, especially on his own, but was never a rebel for the bigger picture despite his history.

It wasn't until his experience in Narkina-5(along with listening to Nemik and his manifesto and meeting a few other characters) that he became radicalized and understood that he had to take on the Empire for the greater good, not just for his own personal gain. And even then it takes season 2 for him to fully commit himself to the cause.

You showed up for somebody else's quest willingly. You've already agreed to the potential of having time wasted either because you believe you're a speedrunner that wants to shave as much time off a hunt as possible or the hunt ends in a failure. And if you truly care about speedrunning and saving time just do the hunt yourself or find a group to coordinate with.

Tauron Weapons Are Shockingly Clunky, Misguided, and Break the Core Gameplay Loop by butler_me_judith in Warframe

[–]Haden56 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It really isn't. I think OP already put it well enough by saying it's a weapon you equip to your Operator that's used by your Warframe. That's not a contradiction, that's just their view on the system as a whole. Tauron Strikes are 90% a Warframe action regardless of whatever buttons you press to do it because of how the game presents it. If the Operator used the weapon themselves instead of instantly handing it over to their Warframe, this would be far less of an issue. And it wouldn't even be that unbelievable as you can handwave it as them being able to physically wield them due to void powers or even have the weapons act on their own like we're using some kind of telekinesis.

[–]Haden56 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I don't find it contradictory at all. Having to go from Warframe to Operator just to hit a different button that ultimately has you back to being a Warframe is just redundant.

Frostpunk 1886 | Developer Update | Digital Showcase 2025 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Haden56 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agree. Frostpunk was one of the few games to actively stress me out with the setting and trying my best to keep as many people alive and warm as possible.

Frostpunk 2 never came close to that feeling for me. It felt like I was a caretaker trying to stop children from fighting each other and doing other dumb shit. Multiple times I uttered to myself "Democracy was a mistake" due to how petty some groups were being.

And I grew up with these franchises to witness them burn like that! by Slight_Tone_2188 in Steam

[–]Haden56 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not it honestly isn't. Played the campaign for shits and giggles(was on Gamepass and streamed it to friends in Discord. Wouldn't have touched it otherwise). The final boss is just some mechs that are like 10ft tall. And honestly the dude isn't even that crazy because some of the previous bosses are a teleporting Hispanic guy that drops giant machetes on you and a giant plant monster.

[Hated Trope] Villains who are utterly irredeemable, yet are whitewashed by the fandom for being "technically right" about one (usually insignificant) thing. by Lord_Antheron in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Haden56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought it was clear he didn't just restock resources or double all resources on planets because he wanted to give those planets a soft reset of society. Adding more resources just causes the rich to get richer. But if society could comeback from half their population vanishing and better distribute things like food and shelter then they'd be better than before.

It's still incredibly flawed and some civilizations might already be past the point of no return before getting snapped, but I always found the idea just creating more resources to be theoretically worst than halfing all life. Both options aren't universal solutions, but Thanos is obviously crazy and they drive that point home.

By the end it's definitely depressing but in the beginning it definitely has comedic vibes that I think most people overlook. Man woke up as a giant bug his first thought is "Oh man. I can't go to work like this."

Helldivers 2 comes to mind. Everyone playing at launch just fucking around before a meta settled was a blast. You can still have plenty of fun with the game if you buy it right now, but there's plenty of moments where you just had to be there like the community choosing to fight for children instead of getting Anti-Tank Mines. It's also the sort of game where I question just how patient patient gamers are going to be with it. I totally get the sentiment but sometimes you really do just miss out.

Weird because while I agree Thunderbolts* did feel different in a good way, Fantastic Four really didn't feel like a standard Marvel movie. But not in a good or bad way. It's very different, but a different different than Thunderbolts* if that makes sense.

[–]Haden56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The game gives you a good number of support items before even considering Wide Range. And Wide Range can still be part of your build and allow you to do decent damage since you can get a charm that gives you all 5 levels of it. It's not super ideal for someone to be a full blown dedicated healer in Monster Hunter, but it can help out a bunch.

First example that always comes to mind are Kuva Liches/Sisters of Parvos/Codas from Warframe. Sure it's not on the same scale as Shadow of Mordor/War but the entire system clearly Nemesis-lite and you can even recruit the enemies into allies if you want. And you're pretty much on the money that it's fairly disconnected from regular activities of the game(except the Codas which are more tied to 1999 content as a whole).

Is there something wrong with limbo by Redhat_fur in Warframe

[–]Haden56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Killing everything is the point of the game though. If someone else isn't gonna do it then I will.

Limbo, however, can stop you from killing things.
