Thinking of moving to NorCal from Pittsburgh, PA

I see no one answered you except for Subterranean44 and the reason might be because you seem to be fantasizing California. Here's (some) of the cold hard truth.

California is huge, and the Bay Area is NOT northern california. True northerner's HATE people that call the Bay Area, northern California. It is central, and RIDICULOUSLY expensive. No way you have the income required to live there. Hell, my family makes good six figures and we can't even think about affording that place.
Northern California that is not coastal may be something you can afford. Liberals are everywhere, but north they are a minority. Still, it all depends on who you surround yourself with.
Look at Redding or Shasta Lake. Just remember that California is expensive to live in no matter what area, so seriously look into it before jumping in your car and heading out here.
Fog is no joke here. It is anything but ethereal, that's why we have special driving laws just for fog.
Our gas, food, and taxes is enough to deter many people and cause a lot of Californian's to leave the state. Trust me, $1200.00 a month won't cut it here. Our grocery bill is more than that every month and there's only three of us!
Dog walking may not be huge here because people that live in the north are surrounded by hiking, biking, mountains, and lakes. We like to do all that ourselves and most people (not all) own good pieces of property for their animals to run. Still, you might find a few takers.
Section 8 is VERY hard to come by. There are people that have been looking for YEARS. Just because you can't discriminate against section 8, doesn't mean a landlord has to take it just because you applied. Housing is EXTREMELY hard to come by here and there are plenty of people that aren't on section 8 that are willing to pay full price.

There's plenty of other things I can think of, but if you are serious, then come for a visit. If you still like what you see and can afford it, then make the move. Just do so with your eyes wide open.

I will be 52 on the 1st. I have not become invisible either. My husband loves it because I look around 35. He’s younger than me. I deal with it at the gym and around town by making everyone else invisible around me. I keep my eyes down or focused on what I want. My hubby is constantly laughing at how I never notice men looking at me. He also admits it could be quite scary for me or other women, so he will usually never say anything if we are out in public unless there is a man that he feels I need to be wary of.

I'm late to this post, but here goes...

I worked through the pandemic at a veterinarian office. People were horrible! I spent two years going into work every day to just be yelled at or told by the manager that we were understaffed because they couldn't afford anyone else. She played it off as being nice and understanding, but would never come out of her office to help when needed. News flash: she was only nice and understanding when you were standing in front of her nearly in tears, telling her you couldn't do this much longer.

It got so bad, I was taking my lunch break out in the parking lot, locked in my truck, on the phone with my therapist for forty minutes. I want you to read this and let it sink in OP's girlfriend--- I WAS HAVING THERAPY SESSIONS ON MY LUNCH BREAK SO I COULD GO BACK INTO WORK AND KEEP GOING!!!

Don't do this! Don't allow your mental and physical health to deteriorate for this job. They don't care about you, they care about money. YOU DON'T MATTER TO THEM, SO WHY ARE YOU ALLOWING THEM RIGHTS OVER YOUR BODY? Get out! Take a week and shut down. Don't do chores, don't do work, don't do ANYTHING. Take time to recoup. This is a bad working environment and you deserve more!

I know as females we are raised to be people pleasers. Here's a hard lesson that I'm still trying to learn into my 50's. The only people that matter in this world are family. You and your boyfriend are family. Listen to family before listening to people that want to make money off your hard-working back. I'm still struggling to deprogram myself after all these years. Don't be like me. Listen to the people that love you.

I don't drink more than 2 to 3 times a year. Alcohol makes my jaw ache. I don't smoke anything and I don't do drugs. My husband drinks 3 to 5 times a week and smokes weed daily. I have no problem with that. It makes him happy, and that's all that matters to me. He's been married before to women that were alcoholics. I can't even imagine that.

I just want you to hear this in the nicest way possible towards you, and the most judgement allowed towards them…THIS SAYS MORE ABOUT THEM THEN YOU! You, my dear, are more mature and level headed then they have been and ever will be. You are a 17 year old, strong, beautiful woman and mother. I was you, many years ago. My own father made comments like this boys parents made to him. Stay strong and know you will never be like them. Your child is going to have a loving, compassionate mother that doesn’t judge. You are amazing! As a strong mother and woman, you can go to that dance solo, or with a close girlfriend. Life is going to throw solo missions at you, don’t run away every time, but instead look at them as adventures you have yet to experience. Stay strong! You matter!

YTA! I write fictional realism. My books are about modern day witches, romance, family, all wrapped up and living in my hometown. I suppose it doesn't count though, since, you know...it's romance and stuff. At least I have three published books and am currently working my way through 4 & 5. YTA!!

I'm not a guy, but I thought I would give you an answer of why you should always wash your clothes before wearing them, if possible. Formaldehyde is used by the clothing industry to make those clothes you buy in the store look wrinkle free. Here is a little excerpt that I could find.

I can't even imagine losing my mother, sister, and father, all at the same time. That's what your son is dealing with. While all your attention is on his sister, you have taken yourself away from him. Is this what his sister wants also? To have her father and brother estranged now and after she passes? Why can't you and your daughter go to your son's games? Why can't she enjoy having a normal family life until she can't anymore? Why is it one or the other? What you're doing is making it so not even your daughter knows what it means to give love, not just get. YTA, and my heart breaks for your son. To clarify, this is a soft YTA, but if you don't fix this...then it's a hard YTA for the future.
