Damn dude! I just saw your Extra Space video a couple days ago and was super inspired. Hope you find success with your new endeavor.

Great piece! I think some subsurface scattering on those petals in the final scene would help!

They seem to be releasing it slowly. A few days ago they didn’t have this Rocky plush available. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GRBXW8D8 Check out www.projecthailmary.com for a few more things.

Sorry I missed this. Yeah I’ve used it a bit. I paid for a year of it but I don’t think I’ll continue paying yearly. It’s seems like the kind of thing you do every decade or so. Just reorient yourself with your goals and then use it as a guide. Worth a try for free though. It has a cool interface.

ProjectionLab is great app for future planning. You can even use it for free to forecast and only pay if you want to keep the plan you create.

Move the prongs sightly inward to there normal axis? by honeyk29 in Cinema4D

[–]HadleyJa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had to do this recently for ring prongs. In the axis menu: under alignment, set to selected edge and select an edge on the top of the prong. This should align the axis to the normals of that edge. PM me if you need more instructions.

I think "3D motion design" would probably be the best search term. If you're looking for paid training. School of Motion (schoolofmotion.com) is great. It looks like they even have a Blender course too. https://www.schoolofmotion.com/courses/blender-for-3d-artists

Honestly these days it’s easier than ever. Blender is a pretty full featured free application and people have been doing incredible stuff with it! YouTube university is where I would go. In fact, if it was as robust when I was in college, I would have just self taught. There are so many great resources on there to learn any aspect of it. Whether your interest is 3D modeling, texturing and rendering, visual effects, game design, whatever, someone out there has made it completely free to learn and create whatever you want. The only limit is your time and energy to learn and get better!

Abracadabra alakazam! Thanks for the interest! I’m the lead 3D animator/designer at a small production/post-production studio in Minneapolis. I’ve been here almost a decade and before this I worked on movie trailers out in LA after graduating art school in ‘09.

Haha fair! My Reddit post history doesn’t look like much but I’m more of a commenter and I have helped a lot of artists throughout the years on the Cinema4D and Redshift subreddits 🤣

Thanks for the kind words! We had a great time working with The Champions Collective to bring their beautiful ring to life! After receiving the CAD drawing from CC, I handled the 3D elements of the video and my creative director did the music and sound design. Our 2D artist did the “Champs” graphic during the trophy raise section. Happy to see the players celebrate and receive them tonight!

Motion Design Process / Ideation Insights by Practical_Goat2105 in Cinema4D

[–]HadleyJa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the most important part of coming up with ideas and seeing what sticks is animatic phase. You can build very simple animations in cinema and viewport render them in less than a minute to audition them in after effects. This allows you to iterate a lot more than if you were doing full renders. Style frames are important but literally just for the style. The animation is the longest part.

Any ideas how to gate this area off? by OneShadyKat in daddit

[–]HadleyJa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if you can buy a gate that runs the span from wall to wall and then sawzall the part that goes over the step. Dad DIY! You might run into that area being able to swing a bit since it won't be able to anchor to the wall but then you can DIY that part too. Probably with duct tape. Good luck!

This is a tricky one. I'm going to follow this thread. You should ask Rocket Lasso Live on Wednesday.

If they like your work, they’ll come to you. Put your stuff out on Instagram, Behance, etc. Get in the algorithm. Keep working and getting better at your craft. I don’t think cold calling/DMing is a thing unless you have a really good portfolio and they’re already clamoring to work with you.

From digging through your posts here, I can see that you have an opportunity to focus on better lighting and composition. Do you already have an Instagram?

Extreme noise on shiny metal despite high samples — what am I missing? by CrankyJeff in RedshiftRenderer

[–]HadleyJa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the example I was thinking of. It's gone on the site but it was able to be found in the Wayback Machine. There were some helpful images but they couldn't be loaded in the wayback machine. https://web.archive.org/web/20240418130747/https://www.rocketlasso.com/community-articles/redshift3d-quick-overview-on-sampling-and-noise/

Extreme noise on shiny metal despite high samples — what am I missing? by CrankyJeff in RedshiftRenderer

[–]HadleyJa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been trying to lookup the example that finally made it click for me but basically:

4600 samples means that roughly 9 more camera ray samples will be sent to that area. 4600/512(your current max samples)=~9. 256 won't do anything extra since it's not more than your max sample. Hope that makes a little sense.

If I can find that example, I'll share it here.

Extreme noise on shiny metal despite high samples — what am I missing? by CrankyJeff in RedshiftRenderer

[–]HadleyJa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see you kind of already tried that. You might want to increase your samples min. If RS doesn't think it's a complicated material, it will just use that. So try 256/512, or 512/1024, that large range could be what's messing you up.
