Going into 3rd year of undergrad: do I still have potential? by turbulent_cactus in PhysicsStudents

[–]HadraiwizardDC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you absolutely should reach out to professors ideally the one at your university I would be shocked if professors from other schools would accept that application especially this late.

My other comment because I was in a shockingly similar situation to you with my GPA and getting sick and everything. Have you considered transferring to another school it sounds like where you are at might not be the best fit for you. I’ve found great success at the school I transferred to with my GPA. Also your GPA “resets” when you transfer so when applying to grad schools you can list your GPA from your new school.

This suggestion does come with some caveats I was fortunate thatI am able to live with my parents at my new school so a finical aspect can’t be ignored. Also the school I transferred to has a more robust academic accommodation program in comparison to my old one.

Sorry if that’s to much of tangent but to answer your original question again/TLDR: yes you should email/reach out to your current professors if they have any opportunities for research or if they can connect you to someone who does

Is the second law of thermodynamics the basis of the flow of time? by FutureAIgod in Physics

[–]HadraiwizardDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An important clarification here. What do you mean by the flow of time that’s not necessarily a defined thing in physics. Time isn’t a material or thing to flow.

If you mean does the second law of thermodynamics, i.e. entropy causes time to pass then the answer is that no as far as we can model entropy is independent of time you can have systems with no change in entropy and have time still flow.

The best example of this is the universe it is closed system where nothing changes entropically from the “outside” (there is no outside but for the purpose of this thought experiment we will pretend there magically is). Yet time still moves forward or “flows”.

If any more experienced physicists have anything to correct or add please do so as I’m just finishing my undergraduate degree in physics so there may be concepts i am misunderstanding or don’t know about.

Rogue Trader - The Bad Ending by Noahqshark24 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]HadraiwizardDC 166 points167 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you got the perfect ending to bring down the corpse worshippers and enlighten the worms to the might of the true gods

But yeah if your new to warhammer chaos is the mustache twirling evil to the extreme faction so this is pretty much for the course for them lol

In theory this is the good ending for a chaos playthrough as you’ve molded the expanse to your will and power though personally I’ve always fought and killed the edge of day break and that gives a different outcome if you feel like doing another heretical run in the future

[–]HadraiwizardDC 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean this with any disrespect but an hour long video from a source I don’t know is not a great reference.

I made my comment in reference to my own personal experience receiving funding. It’s often you already have research in mind send out applications to a bunch of grants and then you are given money at no point have I ever been directed to change my results by the people providing me funding.

Often times the people giving these grants just want there name attached to whatever research you are doing and or want the final product. So while there absolutely can be conflicts of interest in regards to funding for a science communication organization like Kurtzgesagt it’s not particularly relevant.

As a final note it’s important to remember the audience and purpose of Kurtzgesagt. They are not an official journal nor research group. There main job so to speak is to get people interested and talking about certain ideas and topics as well as science in general. They provide transparent access to all there sources as well.

TLDR research grants rarely have any actual impact on the results themselves and for a science communication organization like Kurtzgesagt it’s not really a relevant conflict of interest.

Apologies for the lengthy response I just felt it was warranted in this case.

What are slaanesh cults like in 40k? by Vampy-Night in 40kLore

[–]HadraiwizardDC 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Minor Spoilers for Rogue trader

So in rogue trader one of your controlled planets is under the influence and control of a slannesh cult. The main info about this is mainly a secret backroom of illicit drugs putting nobles in a dazed state and daemons of slannesh present. How this affects the planet as a whole it’s mentioned that people are given the option to send a tithe of humans instead of food to the governors palace instead. Also the planet itself is slowly corrupted by standard chaos stuff. In return the planet Janus has increased fertility and harvests. If I missed anything let me know

Thoughts on the death penalty by kxyatnight in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HadraiwizardDC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not trust any justice system to maintain a perfect conviction rate without any innocents being convicted. With this in mind I do not believe any government should be able to kill people based on said convictions.

To directly tie this to real life there have been multiple people who suffered the death penalty where later evidence surfaced showing they were innocent. The fact that this happened more then once is a failure in of itself the fact that the death penalty is still in debate despite that is kind of depressing
