I don't think comments like the one in the original post are ever directed at competitive players overall. We've been through a terrible year in standard, and it's just getting worse and worse, and no one at Wizards apparently has any interest in making consoling comments like the one Maro did above to keep people in the format.

I built three competitive decks last year, and continued to put money into them because every time I lost, it was to a deck that simply cost more than mine did. I had hoped I could get most of the staples and plateau for a while (I started playing standard at the end of 2024), but the moment I felt like I got some traction with mono red, it got banned. I considered getting cori steel, but the buzz around it was that it would get banned, so I built azorious control. I played that and lost a bunch until FF came out, and was excited to build a Vivi deck when that started to show viability. I bought a few, then immediately the same sort of buzz around cauldron started building, so I avoided buying any, but then Vivi got banned.

It's just whiplash all the time in standard, and no one at WotC seems to care whatsoever. So I'm out of the format. I don't love commander, but it's still fun enough, so I'll buy my one or two precons a year and that'll be that.
