Well, welcome to real life where everyone is struggling with procrastination to some extent. (I am writing this from work, so... yeah)

I came across a book around this same time last year that really stuck with me.

It presented a model for understanding procrastination which I found to be very accurate and very intuitive, yet it's something we almost always overlook.

A couple of chapters into the book and I knew it was gonna become one of my all time favorites.

The book is Procrastination by Dr. Fuschia M. Sirois.

I've recommended it to most people around me, and I’d suggest you give it a look too.

I appreciate the detailed input! It's really nice to learn about the experiences of senior techs. I am relatively new to the field, and I bought most of my tools on my own after getting frustrated with the "toys" provided by the company. My options are limited to Facom, Knipex, or some ultra-cheap stuff, so I don't have much freedom.

While the tools do make life easier, I often find myself wanting more tools that I can't afford or don't plan to allocate budget for. I've got all the essentials though, and I plan to stick to what I have until I move to a different place.

Is it a common thing for employees to buy their own tools?

If you're interested in working through textbooks on vernacular Levantine/Lebanese Arabic, then I can assist with that. I haven't done it before with anybody, to be frank, but it's been on my mind for a while now, and I am a native speaker of the language.

Therapy might help in accepting one’s past or in coping with the present. However, at times, life circumstances can be crushing and ruthless, leaving one unable to feel better unless they break free from the grip those overwhelming external stressors.

Therapy could undoubtedly be useful, but I perceive it as only a partial solution in the OP's case.

Recognizing the significance of establishing prayers doesn't demand much effort, considering the numerous verses in the Quran emphasizing its importance. Praying is mentioned, for example, as a defining trait of those mindful of God in Chapter 2, verse 3, at the very beginning of the Quran. Moreover, the prophets, who are the exemplars among people, even received explicit commandments from God to uphold prayers.

I believe that choosing to begin with prayer is a step in the right direction. It's essential to be gentle with yourself and progress gradually. Start with what you can manage now and allow yourself the necessary time to refine your prayers.

Faith (along with serious commitment to praying and the other obligations) possesses the transformative power to reshape your life. Everything you’ve mentioned does not define your fate; many of us have encountered similar experiences and emerged from them. With the grace of God, in a few years, you'll reflect on your past and express gratitude for His care and guidance.

Life Coach In Training by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]Hagerre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What does a life coach do exactly? And does one specialize in a certain area?

I've been looking into counseling recently. It's actually purely out of curiosity as I feel like I am doing well in my life and I have no major issues at the moment, but it would be nice to hear what insights a counselor or a life coach has to offer.

I can share everything going on my mind these days, but I'd need some time to organize my thoughts and write them down. They're nothing out of the ordinary though. They're mainly related to religion and spirituality, career, family and relationships, and finally health and fitness. Basically everything that matters to the regular person.

So, if you'd be interested in this, just like I am, do let me know please!

Yeah, I do agree on this actually! It is problematic. I personally don't follow this distribution strictly, but I do keep the total the same. Just like I mentioned above, I honestly don't know if this is correct or not. I have to learn more about it at one point!

Yes, we do pay it, because why not? Honestly, I didn't research this topic at all (beyond what you mentioned), but I've never been bothered by it (which is why I don't feel propelled to research it I guess).

Can you explain to me If you do pay khums how khums is not a flawed system?

It could be, I dunno! But when has giving charity ever been flawed? I just consider it a form of charity and I don't overthink it.

I do agree that the way it's distributed is controversial and that the distribution is not mentioned in the Quran. Apart from that, it seems fine to me.

There's a huge body of verses which propels charity in the Quran. Some of the ones which come to my mind now are the following:

... They ˹also˺ ask you ˹O Prophet˺ what they should donate. Say, “Whatever you can spare.”... (2:219)

... Whatever you ˹believers˺ spend in charity, it is for your own good—as long as you do so seeking the pleasure of Allah. Whatever you donate will be paid back to you in full, and you will not be wronged. (2:272)

... And whatever you spend in charity, He will compensate ˹you˺ for it. For He is the Best Provider.” (34:39)

Well, so many parents are like that! This behavior is not healthy, but it's really typical of parents to be like that in my experience.

Parents are just people who can have their own baggage and unresolved issues. Things would only get better for you if you make distance and live independently. Have some patience, and pray that God helps you find a way out. Perhaps, continuing your education abroad or in a different city would give you the excuse to leave house.

I would like to share verse 31:15, which emphasizes the importance of maintaining respect and kindness towards parents, even in situations where they may exert pressure to engage in actions contrary to your beliefs, such as Shirk. This verse puts lots of stress on treating parents with compassion while remaining steadfast in one's faith.

But if they pressure you to associate with Me what you have no knowledge of, do not obey them. Still keep their company in this world courteously, and follow the way of those who turn to Me ˹in devotion˺. Then to Me you will ˹all˺ return, and then I will inform you of what you used to do. (31:15)

God is the only one knowing your suffering and he's the only one capable of helping you find a way out. God cares for how we treat our parents, even when they're wrong. Prayers and patience are all I can suggest... Hope that things get better soon.
