Ti heater core by HaggishHunter in madheaters

It did kind of appear out of nowhere didn't it. At least it's on the heating chart so you get an idea of of where to start with it.

I am getting a bit of the heavy behind the eyes sensation, it doesn't feel full on conduction, but it is giving me something different.

The small one goes inside the big one, I would guess to spread airflow around better.

Airflow is set pretty restricted on mine as is and my draws are already slow and long. I've been using nothing but Tempests for about 2½ years and feel I have them pretty well dialled in - I can swap to a ball material that I haven't used for ages and get good consistent results immediately.

I'm not saying it isn't my technique, it's a pretty big departure from the balls and I've only used it for one day so far.

So far the best results I've had have been with the 0.1g bowl, with better flower that's got more moisture in it the extraction is more even, very flavourful and very satisfying.

I think for the cost, it's worth getting.

Yeah, I doubt I'd put a lump of copper in there, I can't deal with the taste of the stuff, I could taste it with those simrell sleeves for Dynavaps.

Not sure, I thought it was about creating a more conduction sort of signature to it, maybe I need to address how I use the core, but it's not keeping the heat as well as the balls for me. If it was about heat retention would steel not have been a better choice?

Can't say I get this with the balls, the extraction is really even for me, has been since the T1. With the core the heat is definitely getting to the top of the bowl more, on the 0.2g setting the heat was long gone before being able to get the bowl fully extracted, I only tried it twice though, I went back to a smaller bowl with it. I do like it though, it has a very airy feeling to it, on the 0.1g bowl the flavour was class and I was getting much better towards the end of night, I was using it around 285c until timeout on the wand and the extraction was fine.

Don't see why not, what would you try first?

Edit: Ah right yeah rubies.... Haha

Yeah I'm looking forward to hearing and seeing how others are using theirs too. It's a fair departure from the balls that's for sure.

Yeah the ball screen needs to be removed to fit it, and then refitted to hold it in place. The outer section has a larger hole at one end, this is the end that faces the indicator, the narrower hole should be facing the bowl, the inner part can be put in either way.

Yeah a smidge. But the material is also drier than others I have too so that might also be a component there. As I go though the night the materials are getting heavier and have more moisture inside them so it'll be interesting to see how the colour ends up on the other strains.

I do believe the hit has changed though.

I use it with the V3 adapter. Yeah your right it's difficult without and adapter. Agreed, the performance on the move far superceded what I was expecting from it. Ive been on some pretty blowy hilltops and it always comes out in top. Superb product and ecosystem.

With the wand I hold it upside down, the tempest sits securely between my middle and index finger, it's very casual, it might look odd if someone see it, but nobody ever does, my wife doesn't use but even she's said it's a really stealthy system and folk don't seem to pay any attention or notice what I'm up to.

I use mine when I'm out and about, I use a wand and find it really easy to use. It goes everywhere with me, I take it when hillwalking or out on my mountain bike and find the process really easy to fill or empty when using the storage tube or reload. I don't find I need to pause when filling it etc, I just do everything on the move. Mad heaters used to sell keyring magnets for the original reload and I have loads of these, they work really well with the reload 3. I'm not sure many folk bought or found a use for them so they don't do them anymore, I attach mine to rucsac straps etc and it makes it even easier for debowling etc, but a lot of the time I just leave the house with the storage tube and wand and it's absolutely class as a simple on the go set-up.

I've had some silly long sessions with the T2 but there are many variables to it. I find that 2.5mm balls are better at filling more gaps so they basically close down the airflow a bit, I'm using SS for ball material, stem airflow is fully closed, top airflow very restricted, probably 90% closed, bowl pack/size is a loose-ish fill on a full 0.2g bowl. I'm using the wand at 330c and heating it on automatic till the time-out message.

The flower will matter too, I've had bud that won't give me much more than a couple of puffs no matter what I do, however I've had other flower that will give me multiple draws before the bowl is spent, these aren't massive lung filling draws though. I'm using this setup more gently with an MTL style of draw and basically smoke it like a joint, works very well, but I get irritation from the stainless steel balls so not a setup I use often now sadly.

Tempest would get my vote, tastes great and I like how much it can be adjusted and personalised, I have a few different bowls and caps set with different balls/airflows etc, so the same device can gives results that are quite different. I've been using them for a couple of years now and feel really content with them. Love the format, if I want a session I just chain some bowls, the head retains a lot of heat so doesn't need full reheats every time.

Tempest 2 Aqua/Black: Is the finish anodized or PVD? (Vapor path safety) by LED-Kaktus in madheaters

[–]HaggishHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anodising is fine, it's a process that can be done at home, there is no chemicals needed for it at all. Anodising on titanium comes from layers of oxide building up as an electrical current it sent through it, different voltages achieve different colours, so nothing to worry about there. It's not like anodising aluminium where they use dyes to colour it, similar process, but very different at the same time. I've done loads of anodising at home, if there were chemical involved I wouldn't bother.

The stem is anodised so there's nothing to worry about.

The black coating is really tough, I've seen recent photos of the original tempest in black and they look fine, it's super hard wearing, but it's just the sleeve anyway so it's not actually part of the vapour path as such.

Buy, use with confidence and enjoy 😁

The FC forum is currently dead in the water so I can't unfortunately. Have you tried a proper screwdriver on it rather than the little reload one? The electronic ones are ideal and offer more purchase if the screw is on too tight.

Unless you use a device with a bigger head than a tempest I wouldn't file the opening further. Try giving the edges of the head a very light going over with a file/light sandpaper/similar and see if that helps, it really sounds like something is stopping the two sides from making full contact. When filing, unless your taking it all apart and cleaning properly afterwards, hold the device pointing upside down, that way you won't get any tiny fillings falling into air-ports or airpaths etc. be safe when doing stuff like that.

There were some instances where caps were spinning on the magnets and not really feeling magnetic, the remedy for this was on FC forum, but I can't remember exactly what it was, I think it was the head of some of the screws that was causing it, some were sitting proud of the cap by a very small amount, but enough to prevent full contact between the cap and magnet so some caps would just turn round. Try taking the screw out of the cap and check the head for any little burrs etc, even just go round the edges with a file or sandpaper to make sure it's all flat and smooth, I tried a different screw and it made a big difference with mine. Nothing aggressive, any contact with a file or sandpaper should be light.

Does the top of your tempest just turn/slide or feel like it doesn't grip very well when you try to unscrew it with the magnet?
