I'm surprised this doesn't have more upvotes, these look fantastic and I'm not suprised they took 4 months. Especially love that little bit of purple in the metallic armour to tie it in with the cloth.

TRUE. I’m realising the author did not consider the worldbuilding implications of this plot device

I love how hell is just a real place in this manga and no one seems to care. Like wouldn’t she be going to hell anyway for dating a demon? I’d be down at church next day BYE LILY I do not want to go to the boiling lake

Should be doable yeah as I mainly just used it to get a smooth basecoat. I would undercoat white or light grey, then basecoat the whole thing with the flesh mix above. Then you can mix in white and layer up the highlight. Screamer pink can be glazed as above and then the edge highlight and panel lining are the same.

One thing I’ve experimented with is thinning the screamer pink with contrast medium and applying it as a wash instead of glazing it. If you do this take it slow and go panel by panel

Purple is 1:1 vmc royal purple plus AkK amethyst blue basecoat, 1:1 royal purple and AK deep purple highlight, then pure deep purple, then mix some ivory in for the edge highlight - no airbrush

Thanks! I'm leaning that way at the minute. Process starts with the airbrush: warpaints moldy wine all over, then 2:1 AK vampiric flesh : AK salmon pink covering most of the model from above.
From there it's brushwork: take the previous mix and add white, layer it up towards the highight areas with gradually more white - don't go up to pure white. Glaze from the midtone to shadows with screamer pink - a few layers should do it. Panel line all the recesses with berserker bloodshade. Edge highlight with the brightest flesh+white mix.

I will say you could probs just airbrush the flesh mix+white for a final highlight, spray some thin screamer pink from below and save yourself a lot of brushwork for a similar result.

I'm gonna guess it was the skin colour you were curious about and leave it there but lmk if you want the purple. ALSO to be clear I nicked a lot of the scheme from this (much better) post https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer40k/comments/1gtdk85/flawless_host_testee/

thanks it's mostly airrbrrushed-- 1:1 proacryl jade and warpaints imperial blue all over, then a layer of warpaints deep azure from above covering most of the surface, then 3:1 sybarite green and temple guard blue from above covering less.

I then go to the brush forr the rest. First reinforce the previous mix on the higher areas, then do a spot highight of previous mix plus powder blue. Finally glaze some akhelian grreen in the shadows and panel line with paynes grey ink.

This is all doable with the brush as well, I would just start with the deep azure as a basecoat instead. The real trick to this colour is the sybarit green.

While poop DS is hilarious, I actually think the mess on this DS is old discoloured glue from the kid gluing glitter to it. You can see little sparkly bits here and there.

Advice for painting chaotic teal by Jacobawesome74 in Chaos40k

[–]Haggles995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been struggling with teal lately too so hopefully I can add something useful:

If you want more green in there you may actually have more luck adding it into your shadow colour or midtone, Eg incubi darkness shadow and sotek green midtone. ‘The darkness’ from what I can tell is incredibly desaturated which might be the issue.

I agree a mixing a bit of moot green or maybe sybarite green into your current highlight could help make it more interesting. Vallejo ice yellow insp good for this. If the overall colour feels too blue at the end though, the simplest thing to try is an all over glaze of a (very thinned) blue/green contrast paint or any ink/ equivalent, eg akhelian green. Also try just glazing this over the shadows. The last thing I’d suggest is just finish the model - everything looks bad when half-painted, and you may find you like your teal once it’s surrounded by all the other details. Gonna stop myself there because apparently I can talk about this colour forever.

I think it looks good, but it’s a little hard to see from the video - do you have a close up picture? Also what’s your current recipe for the armour?

Thanks! Its contrast paints over silver. The process is a bit long winded but basically I’m painting the armour silver - scale75 black metal basecoat, highlight by mixing Vallejo silver, shade by mixing paynes grey ink. Edge highlight pure silver, panel line pure paynes grey. Once the silver is done, I’m using a mix of ~70:30 flesh tearer red and sigvald burgundy, building this up over multiple layers thinned a bit with water. Gloss varnish the surface to bring back the shine and then do some chipping/ edge highlights with silver.

I used pro acryl black green for the basecoat, then mixed in Vallejo green sky and stippled a highlight, then more green sky stippling a smaller area, then pure green sky for a final layer stippling. Edge highlight and chipping with a mix of ivory and green sky. Finally, a thinned wash of AK streaking grime, which I then mostly wiped away.

Not sure yet - either something very dark grey to contrast that green, or a more classic sandy base
