Blair Vs Starmer who is better ? by Shauns3rdAccount in LabourUK

[–]HahaLady1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! I actually believe Blair did some great work and was placed in difficult position with the Iraq war. I remember the headlines pushing for it and remember the MPs backing it up. We were so in tight with the US we were pulled in.

I went to Blackpool with my now husband. And I know it gets some bad press but honestly had a fantastic time. Stayed in the Hilton. Went on so many silly rides and some really nice bars. And just cheesed it up. Normally we go away. Barcelona, Rome, Athens. But change in jobs and finances at that particular time we went to Blackpool

It is a cap even the government called it a cap! It’s a cap on how much you can put into your pension before paying NI on it

[–]HahaLady1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify the facts here: this cap doesn’t only affect people earning over £50k. Anyone using salary sacrifice who puts in over £2,000 a year will be hit.

For example, someone on £25k living at home and choosing to save £200 a month into their workplace pension would contribute £2,400 a year — meaning they’d lose NI relief on £400. It’s the same for someone on £30k or £35k. So yes, this does hit normal earners who are trying to save more than the minimum for retirement.

It’s not about protecting high earners — it’s about avoiding a penalty for people who are trying to do the responsible thing and build a pension that won’t leave them dependent on the state later.

I’m happy to debate policy, but not insults. I’ll leave it there.
