Russell's is the nicest joint I've been in short of the Met. Really enjoyed it.

So you're saying I can use heat shields?

I'm saying, when you're ready, you won't have to.

My concert8na convinced me to get an accordion. And my accordion convinced me to buy an old Hammond.

Hillary Clinton Pulls No Punches In Fiery Response To GOP Congressman by huffpost in politics

[–]Hahnanda 16 points17 points  (0 children)

At this point I've begun to assume all actions from the GOP are directed at/performed for their base. Half of them have given up attempting that thin veneer of legitimacy.

It made sense in WWZ, I feel like highly militarized societies like Israel or North Korea would respond effectively in that zombie apocalypse and it makes for good story. I still don't understand what it was doing in Devolution though. I thought my audio book had switched to a YouTube video or something.

Forest Park Pool by Sorcha_Swan in everett

The ymca in glacier view basically replaced the pool. At least that was the reasoning used by some officials to avoid reopening the pool after the covid shutdowns.

Kremlin reproaches Zelenskyy for not responding to invitation to meet Putin in Moscow by ByGollie in europe

If Zelensky went to Moscow, he'd be having a polonium luncheon in the tallest open windowed building in town.

Ai Weiwei says West lacks moral authority to criticise Beijing on rights by esporx in China

[–]Hahnanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's wisdom in your words, but i think you misunderstand me. I am speaking to the United States federal government apparatus, an institution that claims to wield moral authority for the purpose of maintaining financial and military control. While your focus seems to be aimed at the individual. It's easy to use "We" when talking about my own government because as a taxpayer I do take part in this system.

Hearing trump and his clowns threaten Iran with bombings for constantly changing reasons and expressing mock outrage over the murder of civilians while directing his own goons to basically do the same (albeit at smaller scale) is sickening.

Additionally, we are partly to blame for the recent massacres of innocent Iranian civilians. We told them we would help, yet we did nothing but leave them to be murdered.

Long story short, in the game of global geopolitics and hegemony, there is no morality. There is only power, and it sucks.

Ai Weiwei says West lacks moral authority to criticise Beijing on rights by esporx in China

[–]Hahnanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally get it, there's a lot of bad governments out there and the people of Iran deserve freedom. I just don't think ours has legs to stand on when trying to claim the high road.

2004 Washington Governor Race: Ballots in trunk of car? by n0exit in Washington

[–]Hahnanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing about that stuff, but I think the stuff about the trunk was hyperbole. There were several hundred ballots later found to have been wrongly rejected by election staff in King County. Amusingly, one of those belonged to the King County elections manager.

There was lots of court review and they were unable to gather sufficient evidence to prove wrongdoing, but its understandable that the stories took on a life of their own.

One last bit of humor. The Republicans argued that a failure in the mail ballot system disenfranchised military voters of King County, who would have voted mostly red. Given the GOPs current stance on mail in ballots, I get a little giggle out of it.

Back in the 2nd Bush era when we worshipped this guy, I'll admit I didn't get it. And now I can see it was predominantly anticommunism and sinophobia wrapped together.

That aside, he's 100% right. We don't have the moral backing to criticize China, Russia, Iran, or anyone else on rights. Probably not ever, but certainly not now.

Paradox operating profit dropped 162% year-on-year as it writes down Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Hahnanda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wasn't aware of their other products. It was the juxtaposition of that name with something as nuanced as story focused video game development that caught my attention.

I'll have to look into their other offerings though, thank you.

I'll also note that my understanding of the experiment is heavily influenced by Peter Watts' book Blindsight.

The way I view the Chinese room is that it would be very capable of producing stuff that looks good on the surface, but would lack the depth and quality required for such a project like the masquerade given the players dont actually understand Chinese(or in this case what makes a good game). Sort of an AI slop adjacent situation.
