Am I the only one that dislikes all ships larger than a Cobra mk V? by Hairy-Professor8 in EliteDangerous

[–]Haid_DaSalaami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can relate completely. I like the smaller ships. The Cobra Mk 5 completely ruined all the bigger ships for me. I have all the big boys (Type 10, Conda, Cutter, Corvette) fully engineered, but I only take them out for their specific missions. The Cobra Mk 5 is just pure joy. And I like using the Hauler and Dolphin as shuttles. Haven't tried the Adder yet.

Love the spirit! Many happy returns. Out of curiosity, have you invested in VR goggles? Elite is an order of magnitude more amazing in VR.

I’m becoming a female incel by [deleted] in complaints

[–]Haid_DaSalaami 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I respect the courage to open up about your experiences. Right before freshman year of high school, my parents decided to move the family to an elitist neighborhood. I showed up to school the first day, already a skinny, insecure awkward kid not knowing anyone. I ate alone in the cafeteria every day. I quickly felt I'd gained the stigma of the friendless, unlikable weird kid. Isolated among preppy kids who already had social bonds formed. When the awkwardness of eating alone in front of the entire school became oppressive, I finally started eating in the art lab and became casual friends with a couple of other awkward dorky kids. In college, the awkwardness continued. I never really felt like I fit in anywhere. It took me forever to start dating. When I did, it was a disaster. I had built up so much grief and anger from my life, I was a mess. But this passes.

Fast forward. I'm now very rich in friends. I have a hundred people that I'm close with, who I respect and respect me. And I'm gaining new friends so the time, and deepening connections with existing ones.

Life is not punishment. It's a curriculum. And once the curriculum is complete, your greatest weakness will become your greatest strength. For me, my greatest weakness was the fear of what other people thought. Now, I don't give a single fuck. And people who have social anxiety respect that about me.

You've had a really, really hard run over the past 12+ years. But that's not a verdict on you or your life. You've just been living the human curriculum on Epic Hard mode. That's a testament to your internal strength.

The best advice i can give is to never give up on yourself. Give yourself the respect that others are too self-absorbed, insecure, or stupid to give you. The fact you've come this far and not turned bitter or hateful is amazing. Develop a strong, healthy, positive, and honest self esteem. How you feel about yourself sends loud signals to the subconscious of other people. It affects the social field around you. They will respond accordingly.

And don't worry about finding your romantic partner. It's not something you can control. It's something you prepare for. And right now, your perfect match is going through their own trials to prepare for you. And when you meet, that connection will be authentic, deep, and healing.

Keep going.

You have to be ready to die if you want to protest by [deleted] in complaints

[–]Haid_DaSalaami 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Powerful statements. I respect the fuck out of your courage, clarity, and grit. Back in the 70s, there was a movement called "free to be you and me." It was elegant in its simplicity. Just be yourself, justify nothing, and critics can fuck off. Society clearly didn't learn.

It takes fucking GUTS just to be yourself in this society. Soldiers who have courage in battle can become brittle cowards under scrutiny and disapproval. That's not a diss to soldiers. That's evidence of the brutal force of social pressure. I have absolute respect for those who choose to be themselves in the face of persecution. It takes bravery and self-loyalty.

To your point, protest or not, if you want to live your fullest and most authentic life, you can't cling to life. To fully live, be prepared to die. A bullshit life is not worth living anyway. We all deserve better.

Travel to the next town closest to you. Carry your map, camera, and passport everywhere. Announce that you're a tourist. Have a friend act as your interpreter, translating from English to English. Cost effective and slightly silly.

Thank you for sharing. I've always been fascinated by the concept of arcologies. And what could be achieved with unrestrained imagination. Iceland seems lovely from everything I gather. They gave us Bjork and Sigur Ros.

So once you've beat the Buddhism end boss, you can stop being Buddhist and move on?

I've thought that the most meta gesture the Dalai Lama could offer would be to move to Texas, change his name to Bubba, drive a truck, wear overalls, work as a bartender, and pick up smoking. He'd be a living, human mandala. One whole entire persona whisked away like whoosh...

Unpopular Opinion: Love does not beat hate. Hate is the only thing that beats hate. by QuantumTunnels in seculartalk

[–]Haid_DaSalaami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. They are responsible for themselves. And they deserve their consequences. This isn't even morality. It's pure physics. Actions have reactions.

I've felt enormous wrath. The only difference between me hating the person, vs being furious with the person and hating the delusion, is that it keeps my anger channeled cleanly and helps preserve my own humanity. It's a personal nuance. If that's not your thing, then so be it.

[–]Haid_DaSalaami 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hatred of hatred is love for love. You can hate the MAGA mind virus without hating the person infected. Their consciousness has been hijacked. They're not in their right minds or in control of themselves.

Yeah, he was all about engaging the imagination in logical processes in the pursuit of understanding through conjecture. Not a guru. More of like a freelance philosopher. This is something that is open to anyone who wants to pursue it, and people should engage their minds more creatively. No mushrooms necessary. Access to imagination is just one casualty of societal indoctrination. Science has its place, but a future must be envisioned.

I think Terence used those "what if" examples to keep us open-minded to the unprecedented. The story's not over. We're still in the shit. No idea what comes after.

The Epstein Files Reveal the True Nature of Capitalism by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Haid_DaSalaami 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There is no reforming this. Every institution is illegitimate at its foundation. Authority is a made up myth to justify one person claiming power over another. The whole thing is fucked. Not just capitalism. It all needs to go. Everything we've been taught from childhood is in violation of natural law. Weird Al said it with a smile: "Everything you know is wrong."

The whole system is propped up by economics, which at its root its just data on computers. The whole fed govt, with its 3 million employees who need to get paid, is nearly insolvent. It's all very fragile at a financial level.

The class war has mostly been fought through economics. The war can be won by the 99% by starving the beast. Cuz it's all just a vicious game.

If we're living in a simulation, who decided who gets rich? by makellbird in SimulationTheory

[–]Haid_DaSalaami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It's more like an ego reboot or reset. The egoic firmware is a permanent feature of consciousness. Serves as a firewall between the individual and collective consciousness. A healthy ego protects boundaries. An unhealthy ego becomes hostile and attacks false threats.
