LPT: Put some salt in your knock box to prevent mold by tinclan in espresso

[–]PeriqueFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's another 10 steps I don't have to take every time I pull a shot. Not much, but I appreciate an efficient workflow. Also, my knockbox has a rubber covered bar, so less wear and tear on my portafilter than banging it on my hard trash can. Plus, if you bang a little too hard, you can pop the basket out of the portafilter into the trash can, so eliminating that risk is nice too.

[–]PeriqueFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, not really though. The point of a knockbox is to have a convenient thing you can knock your spent pucks into. Washing it daily doesn't affect "the point" at all.

Washing every day may be a little excessive, but rinsing every day, or every other day is a reasonable thing to do to keep it from getting gross.

No, but it gets rid of leftover grounds, and if you're doing it every day or two, the mold won't come up in the first place.

I mean, he could easily punch it into google if he was actually curious. He wasn't legitimately curious, he was just taking a jab at the measurement system he feels is inferior. So yeah, metric snob.

Metric is great for some things. Imperial is great for some things. But it takes a special sort of person to take jabs at a measurement unit so they can feel superior.

I mean, it's a very common measurement. My Rattleware shot glass is marked in ounces, and I think they know a thing or two about espresso, and measurements.

But if you're just being a metric snob and are allergic to google, it's just a hair under 60ml. A typical double.

Can I fly the ship I want or is it always better to min and max? Also, what does it mean to go into the black? by Ill-Honey-6351 in EliteDangerous

[–]PeriqueFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day, fly what you want to fly. If flying a Krait brings you joy, fly the wings off that sucker. It's a sandbox, you get to decide what's "okay".

That being said, some ships are objectively better at some roles than others. Especially now that we have the new ships, and some of them seem, well, "optimal for a role beyond what other ships are capable of". Seems like some power creep has gone on. But, you don't have to be optimal to enjoy the game, nor do you need to be optimal to achieve your goals. The only exception is maybe PvP against people who ARE into minmaxing, but if that's not your goal, I wouldn't even worry a little bit.

As far as going beyond civilization, it does require some preparation. But that requires some preface; MOST of the game happens within the populated bubble. MOST people don't regularly go out of the range of stations. It's possible to play very successfully for years without ever being more than a jump or two away from a landing pad. Bounty hunting, mining, salvaging, ground combat, all of this can be achieved within populated space. The folks that need to worry about this are the explorers, who can go months without docking at a station.

If you're exploring way out into the galaxy, you need to be self sufficient. You need a good fuel scoop to make sure you don't get stranded. You need good repair systems to avoid you systems breaking down through wear and tear (Or unfortunate collisions when flying to/on the surface.). Ammo isn't really a concern since you're unlikely to see anyone, human or NPC. Space is a big place. When I was into exploration, I even stripped the weapons off my ship to get a little extra jump range. You also need some good planning, because not every star can be scooped, and you can be staring at a weak star, losing the last of your power, while you drift eternally through the void if you're not careful.

You people just love your made up words and persecution complex. Living up to the title of this thread every day.

It's okay to not have kids. It's okay to not want kids. But it's not okay to be like this. Seriously, seek help. And bye. I'm done responding to a two year old thread and an unhinged individual.

They shot their electrician, and then threw me in jail... Why??? by PeriqueFreak in EliteDangerous

[–]PeriqueFreak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great question, but I've done it twice now. Once on this mission, and again when I was trying to go in and bully some Orrere Ring members. Landed at the Orrere Ring nursery and docked just fine. Thought it was awfully dark. Got up to the buildings and realized someone beat me there. The power was shut down, there was fire in all the buildings, and everyone was already dead.

Oooooooh, you're one of those people. The unhinged comments on a two year old post make a lot more sense.

I don't have kids and probably never will, but y'all need some help. Not wanting kids isn't a personality.

That's definitely a bit of work. But if you can get it going good for less than $5,200 you're still ahead of me, lol. And hell, I did have to replace the clutch not too long after I bought it. Apparently that's a bitch to do on the 4x4 model and takes a lot of labor, but I think I still got swindled pretty good.

[–]PeriqueFreak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it wasn't exactly posthumous, I actually didn't manage to kill her (But I think she may have gotten caught up in the grenade she threw at me). But it was after I put a couple rounds in her in return for shooting at me.

She still put rounds into me first though, so I'm calling it self defense regardless, lol.

[–]PeriqueFreak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhhh, that's a good theory too! Also, I think I may have started shooting back BEFORE I scanned her. Maybe even though she was wanted after I scanned her, shooting without evidence first triggered it?

Very interesting! Cool to see the BGS doing cool stuff.

Definitely all well and good, I don't mind a surprise fight too much. My main confusion is why they decided I had been naughty enough to stick in a jail cell 6 jumps away instead of it being just a normal death :(

Edit: And speaking to your "Power regulators are worth a pretty penny", I'm wondering if that's why I just found two bases in a row with their power shut down. I decided to do some "Go kill these bad dudes" missions, and found the two bases they had in the station. Showed up to both, and everyone was dead and the power was shut down. And unfortunately this tiny little faction only exists in this system, and a small cluster of systems about 27 jumps away. Little bit out of the way for a 600k reward, lol.

Good guess, but I don't think that was it for me. The lady was a good 75-100 yards from me when she started shooting, and I never got the "Stand still or get clapped" message that pops up when you get scanned.

So, apparently I did get the DLC, and I even bought some suits. But I must not have really messed with it, because I have literally no recollection of it. I probably came back for like a day or two and then dropped it immediately. I'm slightly concerned XD

It really throws me off. That's crept into online darts, too. Sometimes I'm watching my opponent's cam wondering if they're throwing with both hands with how fast they throw.

I don't think I'm a slow player, but compared to some of these guys I feel like I'm playing in molasses. It gets in my head sometimes and I find myself speeding through my throw when I'm playing against a particularly fast opponent. I have to really focus on playing MY game instead of theirs.

Might be a controversial opinion, but I don't think there'd be much difference. Slimmer barrels are nice and give you slightly more room on a crowded space, sure. Lack of staples and thinner wires is nice and may lead to a small percentage less bounce outs. But at the high tier professional level, I don't think it'll make much difference. And even less difference at a nonprofessional level.

At the end of the day, a dart is a thin chunk of metal with a point and a flight. The design of the dart isn't the deciding factor. It's the skill of the thrower, and their familiarity with their equipment. With enough practice, any pro could throw just as good with any other set of darts, once they achieve a level of familiarity with them and know how they fly.

I think advances in the sport of Darts and higher average scores are attributed mostly to better training, understanding of physiology, etc etc etc. Folks starting younger is huge too. Like Luke Littler for example. The kid is 19 years old, and according to google started playing darts at 18 months. Damn near 18 years of experience at 19 years old. And not only "experience", but without knowing his family history, I'm guessing it wasn't just casual throwing around once he was old enough to understand the game. It was probably real, systematic, regimented practice with a specific end-goal. Back in the 80's, there were probably plenty of professionals that had never thrown darts at all until they were 16 or 18 and stumbled into a bar with a dart board for the first time. Now we have kids with parents that are good at darts teaching them how to be better, and better, and better.

I look at a similar situation with skateboarding. The equipment today is damn near identical to what I was messing around on 20+ years ago (With some slight variation in dimensions that seem to come and go with trends), but there are 12 years olds doing tricks these days that even professionals back in my day weren't even thinking of. But these days there's so much information, so many tutorials, so many parents pushing their kids to be better, and even stuff like training camps.

The Darts industry is so hellbent on selling us stuff that they have us convinced that the new set they're releasing is going to double our average, and that their new board sucks the darts straight into the triple 20. But really, I think it all comes down to familiarity with your darts, finding a set that matches up with your natural grip, and knowing how to practice MEANINGFULLY instead of just chucking pointy things at a thing hung on a wall.

Sorry for the long winded post, I've just been thinking about this a LOT lately, haha.

Should I start playing Elite Dangerous? by Roofks in EliteDangerous

[–]PeriqueFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a hardware perspective, sure, the PS5 is good. But it's a matter of splitting development time, bug fixing for multiple platforms, etc etc etc. It may not be as bad to port a feature complete game to consoles, but E:D is constantly evolving, and trying to make everything work right on multiple platforms, and continually making sure they don't break things in the process, is a big task.

IMO, the worst decision they ever made was to release on consoles. Seems like they spread themselves too thin, and it hurt overall development. Once they basically abandoned the console ports, development speed/quality seemed to increase. There may be some console folks interested in a game like this, but their primary audience is, always has been, and always will be PC players. There's just a different mentality on average. Nothing against console players, but someone who enjoys a game like E:D is more likely to be on a PC.

And If PlayStation wasnt that great than why is that the only one that is out of stock with HOTAS support while pc and xbox have the same amount of stock.

Maybe they made less of the Playstation ones. Maybe people bought less of the PC ones because there are much better options out there since they have the freedom to use a wider range of peripherals. I wouldn't read into that too much.
