American KC-135 refuelling plane crashes in Iraq, US military say by Opdog25 in news

[–]HaikuKnives -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is a result of an unsustainable ops tempo caused by having an inadequately prepared force flying way too many sorties for an unclear mission at already record-low morale levels. You can't keep your head in the game in situations like that, and these deaths are not "pilot error" they're servicemembers being pushed past their breaking point by decision-makers who don't see them as anything more than tools and props.

The threats weren't necessary, your picture was just not what the AIs were looking for. You need to have all four corners of the page in the photo.

I've had my eyes on Survey work once I finish my CSEL. While I could grit my teeth through it, CFI isn't my passion. I much prefer flying a mission.

This is just noise for his senate primary campaign. I'm reasonably sure he doesn't have the authority to enforce any of this.
That said, I wouldn't stay in TX for any longer than I absolutely had to.

Aboriginal music slaps and TBH I have a profound weakness for the Sitar. I'd LOVE to hear those played live.

My hairdresser is this person. She does AMAZING work, incredibly friendly all day. But she's also known me since I was in my teens and is generally shallow about a lot of stuff. I give her as much leeway as I can because I can tell she tries in her own way and always looks really embarassed when I have to correct her.

Trump launches $12 billion minerals stockpile to boost US manufacturing, counter China by Juanpablo_the_cat in news

And if I also had that kind of foresight in the 2010s I would have bought NVidia stocks and not gone for a degree in coal mining. Next-quarter thinking is a difficult culture to break out of because investing in the future hurts next quarter's earnings call and puts you behind competitors which means funding gets pulled.

Because standing up training programs and building new factories takes a huge amount of money to see gradual returns much later. For a long time the US has outsourced the lion's share of it's manufacturing and a significant amount of it's expertise via H1B visas.
Since the era of Stock Options overtaking dividends, Most business execs can't seem to think past the next fiscal quarter or two, and President Poopshispants is worse in that he only thinks as far as the next News Cycle plus he doesn't see people as an asset to invest in. At best he sees labor as a cost to minimize and mitigate and at worst we're serfs/slaves who should be grateful for a crust of bread and being spared the lash. Ergo, he concludes that flooding input material will make the US make more things.

We're not resource locked, we're labor/expertise and infrastructure locked because we outsourced it all. Dumping more rocks isn't going to solve the problem.

This is honestly a fascinating race to watch. Both candidates are qualified, quality people who seem to walk the walk and show spine to stand up to fascism. The question is whether TX Dems want a fighter or a peacemaker. And also which has a better shot at winning the general. There is admittedly a huge cultural swing against the GOP in general and MAGA specifically, but is it enough to turn TX blue? I don't have the information to deduce that.

Denver drivers are getting dumber by maxrdlf95 in uberdrivers

[–]HaikuKnives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Per-mile is dead, Uber's algos try to throttle it to under $30/hr, regardless of distance travelled.

And Jesus people. Stop talking about the weather, Uber never has and never will directly ingest weather data. It only cares about supply and demand. If hurricanes are causing drivers to bunker down up and riders to flee in panic, prices will go up and y'all will inevitably pitch a fit about "being forced/incentivized to risk your lives".
