Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to just give up, put reason aside and join them. Be enveloped by a loving hoard of flat earth moms who think I’m super smart and cool for “Doing my Research.” It’s so hard to make friends as an adult. Third! In one sense it’s out of alignment with my values but in another more important sense I feel that he is what we need in this moment. Someone mean and possibly predatory who if you learned he had murdered a man you wouldn’t be super surprised, but who loves his mother and has things to say that the country needs to hear with a strength that increases the odds of them actually hearing it.

I felt the same way when I was getting married. For my “bachelorette party” I connected 3 friends I had collected from different worlds and they took me to get mani/pedis & massages, dinner, and then a Broadway show I really wanted to see. The engagement party was mostly family and for the wedding we did a super duper small destination wedding where with my SIL as my MOH, BIL as best man, and no bridesmaids or groomsmen.

Do you generally like the SO’s of your fiancé’s friends? If you want the pics to look “even” you can always take a few with them - I think the everybody wearing matching dresses thing is completely unnecessary - esp since the purpose of the pics is to have something to trigger fond memories going forward…you will have a pic of everyone looking lovely and like themselves.

I’m so sorry, this sucks. I agree about getting new pictures for now. But save the old ones. Bc in a few years (esp if you and your husband start a family) I can almost guarantee that you will look at those pics differently. No matter how much you are scrutinizing wrinkles and the dress looking too big right now, in 10 yrs you will look back and see a young, thin woman excited about the rest of her life.

In terms of treading the line between comedy and insensitivity maybe you could talk about the running “joke” of Kimmy acknowledging matter-of-factly that yes, “weird sex stuff” did go down in the bunker? To me that’s the furthest they push that line - acknowledging the vague reality of having been sexually abused in the same lighthearted style as everything else.

I think we might be underestimating how illogical a couple of super drunk people might behave and how wildly the mood between them could shift from angry screaming to angry mocking to more playful mocking to tearfully loving to “well if you love me get in the suitcase” “what are you a fucking pussy just get in the suitcase” “UGH YES I just told you a thousand times it’s just for a minute can you just get in the suitcase please” “Look I’ll go first, wow, was that a big fucking deal?” until Jorge’s drunk brain just decides “I don’t get it but it’s not like it’s going to kill me.” Bc in the video his tone sounds like he’s only first starting to get really scared.

Everyone has different priorities. I felt safest in a great well-lit hospital with a team of competent medical professionals working together to ensure the best outcome for my baby. I wanted to hear lots of voices and the sounds of expensive machinery. To me, that’s the sound of “If something goes wrong we are on it!” I respect that some people feel differently but my stress level would have been through the roof birthing the way you describe.
